I have a Gilera DNA50 03 reg.

I know this should be in the workshop section but i need as many replies as possible.

Basically the bike is losing power whilst riding. It reaches about 27mph and dies until it hits lower revs, then power will return for the same to happen again.

Setting off isn't brilliant either. It takes longer than it should from when i pull the throttle to it actually moving and when it does set off it feels as though its going to stall as it lurches forwards and then picks up and moves.

This does improve after about 15-20mins worth of riding but by then i've usually reached my destination anyway.

The bike is fully de-restricted with a technigas exhaust and mallossi variator.

So far i've had the carb cleaned, the rollers replaced, the spark plug and plug cap replaced and still no luck. Now the garage where i had this all done will no longer touch it as they don't know what to do with it. I've rang the Gilera dealers who can't fit me in until the 9th Aug for a 2 hour inspection of £70+VAT. I'm tryin to get the bike sorted so i can sell it as my insurance runs out on the 13th Aug.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Please Help!!!

All the electrics on a DNA go through the clocks with a silly little ribbon cable throws up some really strange errors when it gets wet from condensation. Replace the choke first.

So, why do you deserve 'as many replies as possible' over other people that have posted in the correct section? Smile

Also, more importantly, you will find that your post will get knocked to the bottom much quiker in General Chat than in Workshop, so you will probably find you actually get less replies over a few days, thus I have moved the post to workshop Smile.

I'm having similar problems with the scoot I'm borrowing and I've basically narrowed it down to the fuel petcock. The fuel hoses are perfectly clear and the carburator is spanky clean, yet if I hold the throttle wide-open for more than about 30 seconds and release, the exhaust will make this strange noise and I'll have no throttle response unless it's twisted to the stop. Yet if I coast for 5 seconds or so and give it throttle again then it'll pick up as normal. It's as though the carburator isn't receiving fuel fast enough, since the problem isn't there if I keep the throttle to minimal WOT bursts.

Just something to consider after all else, I suppose.

I didn't have it de-restriced, the previous owner did. That was almost 2 years ago now and this problem has only just started.
DM that is almost exactly like me... Wierd isn't it!! let me know if you make any progress with that please!

Clean the carb and float needle. Check that silly autochoke unit. Check the plug and see if it is running rich/lean.

Plug in autochoke unit to a 12v supply (i.e battery), measure the needle before and a few minutes after and see if it moves, 3-4mm I *think* is the spec but I dont have the manuals with me right now.

It does sound like rollers though, are you sure you have the correct weight? The Technigas is a very bad exhuast and fiddly to get a half ridable setup, let alone one thats good for power.
