On the way back from sherburn yesterday just after towton my throttle cable decided to snap just outside Towton ,no problem i thought ill ring my dad to see what he can suggest then after 3 seconds into the phone call i get disconnected , check my balance 0.00p! AGGGHHH my day is getting worse, anyway my dad rang me back and i told him the situation said he was on his way, anyway 20 minutes past along with about 100 bikes and only 1 guy asked if i was ok!!!! (thanks very much if your on here, green kawasaki ZX something, you know who you are )
Is just because i had L plates on??? or just because im not on a big powerful sportsbike (im on a AR125)??? come on lads and lasses thought we looked after our own, when i see a bike on pulled over 9/10 i pull over to see if i can help, ____________________ Soo close to buying a 748 Biposto

Sometimes it depends where you park up. I often see people on the side of a nice stretch of road and by the time I've spotted them I'm past them. You then have that nagging feeling "wonder if he's ok" but by then your half a mile away.
If I ever need assistance from other bikers I'd try to get the bike somewhere they are gonna slow down e.g. a junction and make it absolutely clear I need help.
Lets face it you'd feel a bit of a pillock if you slammed on the anchors just to find he was having a quick fag. ____________________ https://hyperbikes.forumsplace.com/ |

Can't say why only one stopped. Was it easy for them to see you and pull in? Where you just stood there having a fag so didn't look like in trouble? Did you try the helmet by the back wheel? (I've heard this is meant to signify in need of assistance but never seen it used myself). ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Have to admit, I rarely pull over for someone on L plates, as too many of them round here are stolen, and it's too much of a risk to me. "My stolen one's broken so I'll rob yours". Never going to happen, but why tempt fate?
Anyway, it's character building being alone. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Firstly, did you actually wave anyone down, or did you just stand there, waiting for them to stop?
I've stopped for people before and have only had bad responses. I actually fixed one problem and got the guys bike started but he didn't like it because I was a girl, the other time he wouldn't even let me touch the bike, just kept saying 'no, don't worry I'll do it'. Another time the guy had just stopped for a cigarette, so I had to wait for about 5 minutes before someone would actually let me out of the layby.
Also, I've heard lots of stories about people pulling over to help bikers, only to have someone jump out and steal their bike, leaving them stranded. I'm sorry, but as a woman on my own I'm not going to risk having my bike nicked or worse when I've had no thanks for stopping before. ____________________ One post Gordons - just here to sell. |

I stopped about a week ago because a guy on a 05DT125x was at the side of the road, he had afull tank of petrol and it wouldn't start, i flicked it onto reserve for him and off he went.
Took 3 minutes of my time and probably saved him about 30-60 as he was about to call recovery. |

I've usually been thanked when I've stopped to help, though have rarely been able to help.
Stopped quite near my home on the M4 for a courier with some spark plug problems. Between him and me prodding it we actually fixed it without realising and he was most grateful as it was 7pm or and he still had another 150miles of the round trip left . |

For me, the satisfaction having helped someone out is reward enough without someone remembering to say thankyou.
I have to admit I'm a little less satified when I lend a mate some tools and I have to keep asking for them to get them back and sometimes the guy forgets he even had it in the first place and denies he ever borrowed it !
If I borrow something, I will return it as soon as I have finished with it.
Having said that I would prefer to buy another set of allen keys for a £1 and still lend stuff out. But if he wants his battery charged, the bike comes to my house and I dont lend the charger. I dont tell him why tho ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

I feel the same as Lap-Time, I feel a bit vunerable stopping. I was stranded for over 3 hours on a motorway a couple of weeks back in the evening and 1 bike stopped for me. I find that on a motorway, by the time you have thought about if they need help or not you are way past them. Thats what i assumed anyway as the guy who stopped for me walked about half a mile back to get to me. |

My AR125 broke down about 3 times, never once had a bike ever stopped. My 50 broke down all the time (well in torrential rain) only car drivers stopped.
I have stopped once for a lad on a CG125 witha flat tyre, offered to blow it up on my compresser to get him home as he was about 4 doors from my house, instead he said he would push it to the garage 3/4 mile away, his loss. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

You got a picture of your AR125? I had the A8 (fastest ) till a few months ago when both the big and top ends combusted in non prescribed form. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |
