Yep , i had a verbal N.I.P. off the copper and was also read my rights , i was'nt even pulled over , i was actually stood next to the bike with no helmet etc when he just pulled up in a van and collared me , was quite funny actually because he said " do know why i stopped you?"

I said "you didnt i was just standing here" suffice to say the man had no sense of humour and obviously didnt get laid the night before

i personally think my licence is worth more than a small number plate.

well so do I, i was just asking wether that plate world cause many problems with the bacon, the letters are only slightly smaller than standard, it isnt blatently smaller, and it does'nt stand out for being super small.
if the penalty was a fine then id keep it on no probs, but with me only being allowed 6 points till a year in december, i have to think carefully about such things

TBH i think a small number plate may just tip a coppers opinion if he was thinking about nicking you, more ammunition to his arguement. as my bike has an "illigal" can and no tax till tommorow i am happy to have a normal plate as its just an extra thing to draw attention to yourself

No points for a small plate, just a £30 fine and a rectification notice. If you got a NIP they fooked up (unless theres something you're not telling us).

You are reqired to take the bike to a given MOT station with the offending article fixed, then take the signed thing to the filth. And it is a non endorsible offence, fines can vary, but no points are given.

I'm 100% sure it wasn't an endorceable offense. However I researched this a few years ago, and now now comes the issue of it's included in the MOT, where as before it wasn't.

Theory: Small plate = Would be MOT Failure = Bike not roadworthy?

By same theory, illegal cans can get you points.

Taken from

A fine of up to £1,000
The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN

No mention of points?

In actual fact if you fail to display a plate conforming to british standards, you are actually committing the offence of failing to display a number plate!!!

1) The copper could issue a £30 non endorsable fixed penalty notice.

2) you could be given 14 days to rectify and evidence that the number plate has been set to rights (vehicle defect rectification scheme)

3) You could be reported for summons to a court.

4) you could be given a verbal warning

5) nothing at all!! (especially as the government have supposedly reduced the emphasis on such items)

6) you could be given a warning under the police reform act 2002, whereby if the vehicle is used in a manner likely to cause distress to people, that if found re-offending, the vehicle could actually be permanently seized from you (not likely for the actual small number plate, but for nuisance riding).

If you are caught too many times riding with a plate that does not conform to british standards, the dvla could actually retract the number, and issue you with a q plate, which is not good.!!!

so that £30 non endorsable fixed penalty notice, is that just a £30 fine and make sure you get a proper plate on or does it include points?
