Because the RGV250 doesn't have a starter motor fitted.

What Robby said. RS uses RGV250 motor, and the RGV's don't have button start. Most likely because kick start mechanisms are lighter than electric starter motors etc.

Got all the bits the 125 has apart from the kickstart, which as mentioned is a feature of the engine. Weighs about 4kg more than the 125 I think, though does have twice the power.

There is actually a UK race series for the 125, don't think there is one for the 250, but think there was at one point.
Definitely a road rather than race bike- dry weight of proper (gp) race 250s is another 40-50kg or so lighter and make another 20+hp.

not all the rs125's have electric start.

I have the sp which has kick start, and fully adjustable rear shock (adjustable preload and rebound).

The kickstart has been a lifesaver as my rectifier blew so my battery wasnt recharging properly. There would not have been enough power for an electric start.

The idea of kickstart rather than electric start is as if it were a race bike to save weight.

I love the action of kicking the bike to start it.

Find my RD350 had a much more 'satisfying' kick Smile - add to the soft suspension and it looks like you're actually turning something over.
Can actually 'kick' my rs with my hand if the engine's not too cold!

The DR600 you had to give a serious kick - but could get a bit achey if it wasn't in the mood.

After trying to kick a CR500 a few years ago, that proceeded to kick-back and nearly break my foot in half I've now decided I'm not gonna try and kick anything over a 125.

My RGV is the same. If the bike has been running a short while, it only needs a quick push with your hand.

Smaller 2T's (125/250's) are extremely easy to bump start anyway, no need for a kick or starter motor, fire it up GP style. Razz

This is turning into one of those conversations old men have with modern bikers....
'I had a square four, oooh, break your leg on starting that would'.
