Just took the old crappy rusty exhaust off my bike and put the original back on. It went back no problem but when I started the bike up, one of the exhaust header bolts fell out. Picked the bolt up and it was covered with the inner thread. I'm a bit stuck without the bike now and need it sorted ASAP.
So anyone got any ideas of what I need to do to get the bolt in?
Will I need to get the inner thread piece re-threaded?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. The bike is a Sachs XTC125, 2 stroke model.

I think a helicoil is the way to go in this instance. Have a word with your local friendly bike mechanic. It shouldn't take too long to do.

Similar thing happened to my mates bike a while back and we asked the local bike shop how much they'd charge. We walked away. For a quick 10-15 minute job, they wanted something stupid like £100+. Guess I'll have to shop around.

Cheers

I have an M6 + M8 + M10 fine heli-coil kits, if you are near derby i can do it for you for £5 or you can by a heli-coil kit for £30.
They come with 10 inserts and you can buy more if you run out.

No where near Derby I'm afraid. Sad
I had a look at kits earlier on and it could possibly be the way forward. Could come in handy at some other stage.
Was it worth the £30 Odie?

Yes they are worth it, one kit does one size, so an M6 kit does M6 etc.
They are well worth it, follow the instruction and you cannot go wrong, been using them now for the last 20+ years, also used to sell them, never had a problem with the kits just some of the twits that used them! Wink
