The YAM does look cooler, but it's quite small - it's roughly the same size as the DT50 (NOT THE 125) - so physically, you should be able to flick it about. There's very little between them, except the honda is priced better and it IS a HONDA - the CG125 engine is uber reliable. I'm being a bit biased seeing that i've ridden my XR in all weather for the last 8 months including doing some rather foolish and unrecommended runs down the motorway. It's great around town and the rear rack does wonders if you're ever carrying a load on your bike. Mine does an indicated 65 on the motorways on a straight. It's seen 75 downhill with the engine screaming in pain on my 250 mile round trip from N London to Hastings.
Seeing that the Yam is still new, not much has been heard about them. I'd say, go for the XR simply because of the proven engine, and the Honda Name - (get a used 03/04 bike for 1500-1700 with AA warranty if you know where to look). If i were to get the Yam, i'd get the supermoto version of the XT ( which it think is the one you're referring to)
Differences are mainly that the Yam has a rear disk brake and physically smaller.
What i'd say is go and get a test ride on both ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1
