Hi

Went to Woodbridge today for top speed runs. Mr C and Silver were there as well.

Best speed I managed was 166.2mph. Not bad for an unfaired Bandit.

All the best

Well done! Cool

Just got back, knackered. Got up at 5:30, rode the 160 miles to RAF Woodbridge did four runs (and a sighting run) then rode back at 50mph on the M25, stuck in traffic! Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, my speeds were:

168.7mph
171.2mph
170.4mph
170.0mph

My target was a genuine 170mph so I'm a happy man Very Happy Just to prove the point about speedos being inaccurate - for those last three runs my speedo read 186mph (which is as high as it goes I think).

Mr C was hitting around 195mph I think, but I'm sure he'll post soon enough. When I left he was busy taking his bike apart. Fastest run of the day (when I left) was 219mph! Shocked

I took a few pictures of some of the bikes that were there. I'll post them in a bit. Keith has a load more.

I would have liked to have a go at that. There's only so far you can/should go on a public road.

219mph Jeez! I would not like to imagine coming off at those sort of speeds!

Would have been great if the Ghost Rider and his 499bhp Busa turned up.

Got a good speed then Keith. Should of took Charlotte's ZZR for a spin, I expect that would hit 160.

He managed that on his sighting run! He may now hold some unofficial record for fastest unfaired bike I believe.

I should mention though that, in his class, Keith was 30mph off the pace! I don't think any of the tuned Busas and ZX12s wanted to remove their fairings to give him a chance though...

Here's some pictures as promised.

what a great weekend and well done to Keith and Silver for some very impressive speeds

great to meet you guys and it was great to see the big silly grin on Keith's face every time he went to collect a timing ticket

a few points of interest

don't believe everything you read, Ghostrider's so called 499bhp turbo busa (even if it was a genuiine 499bhp which most of us who have seen it doubt very much) did turn up then it would have undoubtedly been fast but nothing spectacular. When I spoke to him he was bragging of 250 mph but when pushed admitted that it was on an old radar gun which are notoriously difficult to lock onto a fast moving bike and very, very inaccurate - he has never ridden it through certified timing gear to the best of my knowledge

most of the turbo bikes that are run at these events are not running maximum boost anyway as it's impossible to keep rear tyre traction, 220mph wheelspins are not recommended - although I have seen it done when the pilots have decided to run big boost numbers

that red turbo zx12r in the pictures above did 219mph on his second ever run on it and is now we think the fastest zx12r in the world Cool

the black turbo busa was ridden by Sean from BigCC and he did a 222mph run on his last run of the day - I followed him down the track and when I was braking he was coming baack at me from the extra baraking area at the end of the runway - it seems the 1/2 mile braking area wasn't enough for him - and just look at the braking tackle fitted to it

oh and hey - let's not forget, these bikes are all street legal too Laughing

roll on next may for the next 200mph Judgement Day event - hope to see a few more of you there

I'll post the results as I get them Thumbs Up

Have i missed something? Or have you spoken to ghostrdier? or just the bloke that built the bike?

Anyway, looks like fun, bet your neck felt like snapping Keith at 166mph with no fairings!

yeah met him at the NEC

talked to him for about an hour

Turbo Busa from here was there too

on inspecting his 499bhp busa that did 250 mph we left very, very sceptical with no proof of either

he is a member of 200mph.org and he has promised many times to come to a 200mph event and never turned up

one is just a nutter one was a current racer when we spoke to him but he wasn't there and ghostrider wouldn't give a name - just that he was a racer

Hi

Well, we turned up nice and early on Sunday, and got there before most people.

First there was a briefing. Yellow vests were handed out for those who had never done a flyer. I was going to grab one, but they were running short and I had done a single flyer at Elvington before so I missed out Cool .

First run was a slower sighting run. I didn't push the Bandit that much and landed up recording 150.8mph. My target for the day was a true 150 so I had already beaten that. Next run was 156.9, smack on the red line in top and indicating 170mph (last mark on the speedo). Had a think and asked Sean (guy who run Big CC Racing, who tuned the engine) how much notice I should take of the red line. He just said that the rev limiter would come in before I did any real damage.

Next run I managed 162.6mph, somewhat in the red in top, followed by a 166.2mph (about 700 into the red, and well off the speedo). Next run (I think, might be missing one time card) was 154, but that was with the tank bag on the bike, with a video camera in it and the bullet camera taped to the top of the bag. It was not comformtable sitting slightly more upright (to clear the bag) into a 150mph wind.

Last run of the day I felt went well, but was only 166.1mph. Suspect the wind had shifted a bit from my best run.

A few people had issues with side winds. Seems one advantage of no fairing is that I seemed to be unaffected. On one run I used the left hand lane and found that there was a dip in it at one point. Having the bike drop slightly and have myself move back on the seat suddenly about an inch while doing about 140mph was, err, interesting.

All in all, very happy with the performance of the Bandit. A higher top speed is almost certainly possible by playing with the gearing (and some more power is available for a reasonable amount of money if needs be).

I was the only unfaired bike there, but not the slowest bike. However, hanging on at over 150mph to an unfaired bike is hard work, especially for the neck muscles.

All the best

Keith

Well, you were in the modified group anyway, how about just sticking a supercharger or some nitrous on it? Twisted Evil
