Confused Confused Confused Two mutually exclusive statements there methinks.

Six quid from Amazon! or you will probably get last years in the bargain bin at a local book store for £1.99

Youth of today, ptch, if it doesn't have a computer inside it they don't reckon it works Rolling Eyes

Believe me mate, one of these is the best way. I have followed route finder before and it has taken me on some real wild goose-chases I can tell you. Do yourself a route card before you leave and stick it in the top of your tank bag.

Aye but it will probably say something like:

0°34'56".0000568W : 30°25'42".12000345N

Which is tricky to look up on a road atlas.

Not "You are approaching junction 23 on the M6." as is told to you by 'road signs' which are free for everyone. Wink Smile

Really can't understand this aversion to map reading. I travel all over the fookin country most weekends and usually to addresses or places I've never been before and I've never needed a GPS. Only time I followed one, it got me lost.

work a route out and memorise it or write it down and stick it on the tank. It's not difficult.

hate maps with a passion, I've gotten lost plenty of times even with printouts from the computer telling you to tern left here and at 2nd junction blah blah. A gps will tell you where to go once you've gotten lost as it always knows where you are, it's sooo easy to make a slight wrong turning and completely lose where you are and how to get back on course Took me all day just to get from southwales up to leister once and even ended up in london at one point due to the stupid ass m1 having no turn off's once your on it (cant beleive their was not one turn off all the way on the thing). lost in london then for like 3 hours. hate hate hate maps. use the gps if you can. I've always been bad with directions whatever I try. Maps whenever I use them I swear that their never right - i'll do what it tells me then i'll end up in timbucktoo from doing what it says Sad Sad

The problem with GPS, like all electronic devices, is that all that clever technology is easily undone by a fault or moisture getting into it. Or it getting damaged.

You should learn how to read a map. I done 1100 miles round Ireland with a £4.99 map and I wouldn't have had anything else.

You can still use GPS, but if you don't know how to read a map, and then don't take one with you, you'd feel a right tit if your GPS packed up 10 miles into the journey!

Get lost!

No, I mean literally!

Go for a run out in the country, with a map. Don't aim for any particular place and keep going for say half an hour and then pull up somewhere and see if, using the map, you can find your way back.

But before you do that, look at the first few pages of any road map. These will show you what all the different road colours represent and what each map symbol means. Get familiar with these first.
