wear leathers because they offer the best protection as i found out yesterday! Laughing
think my elbow would hurt a lot more than it does now if i didn't have protection, assume my elbow was the first point of contact

I dislike cows and like showing them that we look better in leather than they do.

i dont wear leather for the simple reason i find them impractical - although i did just buy a richa jacket - it makes me look 'ard

i must admit that leathers offer good protection and are a bit harder than the ol' gore tex stuff i wear - plus they smell great and the ladies love the leather boots - i have bright red ones.

Thumbs Up

Wear them for protection, though I do think a chunky black leather jacket with shoulder armour does tend to make people get out of your way a bit quicker when walking down the street.

Race leathers I don't think are paticularly attractive, and one-piece'ers look ridiculous when you're not on the bike.

Option 3: I wear leathers for the sense of invulnerability they give me so I can ride faster.

Bit of both. They look good and do their job well in the case of a spill (if you get a decent set). Thumbs Up

I think 1 piece's look so naff but a leather jacket, a good pair of jeans and some nice boots (that match my jacket) will do fine i think.

Nothin says you've arrived better than a scratched set of leathers.
Man-made fiber is good but it melts and looks poofy after a slide down the tarmac.
But leather's is shite for the rain.

Does removing the lining compromise the protection?

Yeah abit of both, but you do see some people with leathers that look nasty so they must only care about protection Neutral .

You're not riding fast enough then Smile
I wouldn't have thought removing the lining would reduce the protection, the armour and tough outer layer is all still going to be there.
