i'm losing it! please

tonight started the task of sorting out the damage caused in my off, part of this involved taking the brake pedal off, which also means the rear sets. i thought to myself as there off i wonder what a bit of autosol will do to them!
what can i say i can't believe they scrubbed up so well! now i'm thinking what else will scrub up!
please how can i stop my tarty illness before it starts!
before know it, i'll have a polished frame and wavey discs! Rolling Eyes

I try and Autosol anything chrome or near enough chrome on my RD mate. Nothing wrong with it, just gets the metal looking much brighter than it originally did. Also great for getting rid of rust and protecting it in the near future. You see anything chrome or near enough, Autosol it!

Good place to start - just carry on, bikes are never clean enough, there's always something else that needs some elbow grease.

Hi

Main thing you are removing with Autosol is the protective anodising that they are originally finished with. Once you have polished them you will have to continue to polish them regularly to remove the corrosion that will then be able to attack them (although when alloy corrodes, the layer of corrosion protects the metal from more corrosion).

Also, that anodising is actually a slightly harder layer on the alloy, so strictly speaking you are weakening it marginally (not likely to be a real problem).

Black anodised frames look good. Very highly polished ones look OK, but do a half arsed job and they look awful (and you regularly see them where someone has just polished the easily visable bits, yet when you look you can see the bits they did not bother to do), and it will need regular polishing to keep it looking good.

Cheers Keith - I've had similar comments from other people - including Dad. Won't be a problem keeping it clean - I can't stop cleaning my bike anyway, come rain or shine. (I've also spent 'a while' cleaning multiple areas that you can't see unless you get down and look between the gaps in the fairing - my attention to detail is somewhat 'thorough' (obsessive?) I understand that the commitment would put many off though. I hear what you're saying about the anodising giving a bit of extra strength - hence why I haven't touched the extruded alloy of the twin spars. I'm running out of areas to clean on the bike - hence the non-standard polishing that's taking hold.

Wonder if White Noise would gradually follow suit?
