After looking at 400s all this time i am now on the verge of buying a 95' FZR600 Genesis (pic below). I test rode it today and are going back in tommorrow to talk money.

So before i go beyond the point of no return, does anyone have any experience of the FZRs i.e problems, what to look out for, advantages....

Cheers

Steve

Hi

That is an FZR600R, and not the Genesis version. Never heard those called Genesis (but might be wrong).

Basically the same engine as the Thundercat (pretty much the same bike). Fairly reliable. Occasional gearbox issues. Shimmed valves which are a pain to adjust. Some truely horrible colour schemes (that is one of the better ones).

Nothing that puts me off them to be honest. Reasonable possibility one will be my next bike.

All the best

Keith

Mileage is 24000 so not too high for a 10 year old bike. It really is lovely condition aswell!
He wants £1700 for it, will be p/xin' my NSR hopefully if he can offer me a decent price. Sound ok?

You've got me worrying now Keith because i'm pretty sure this is a Genesis as you can see it printed on the side on the seat unit in the pic below. Should i be concerned that something is fishy because the used price guide only goes up to 93 K reg for the Genesis....... Confused

Cheers

Steve

Its definitely an FZR600R. I'm fairly sure they still carried the 'Genesis' moniker too.

Good bikes. Usual Yamaha gearbox of dubious quality. Also check condition of brakes.

NIce bike, I am sure they carried the Genesis name as well. One point though for £1700 you could pick up a newer model thundercat which not only has a more up to date look but comes with better brakes suspension and the engine has more power and you can pick up very good 97-2000 models for around £1500-£2500. Otherwise I'd try knock his price down a little, but I am speaking from the view of the Thundercat being that I own one.

Hi

Not sure, but Genesis (which is just Yamaha marketing department coming up with silly names for designing the engine to lean forward and put weight on the front end) normally seems to apply to the earlier models.

I would say the price is a bit high for a private sale (as above), but probably not too bad for a dealer.

All the best

Keith

As an example..my FZR600 is 10 yrs old...from a dealer..
12K on the clock..
bootiful condition.
Only £2,000 on the nose.

I think the price is too high for the mileage.

My bike..

Price Seems a bit high, I find I tend to get a hard front brake lever after thrashing it. Apart from that can't complain.
