I've got a really tiny chip 2mm dia must be from a stone as I've never dropped it (4 week old AGV Stealth) looks like its just taken the clear coating and a little paint off. Not bothered about the looks just wondered if I should put a coat of lacquor over it and what type is it. I heard you should never even put stickers on your helmet incase the chemical reaction damages the outer shell so I'm a bit wary of how to treat it if indeed it needs treating at all.

I take it that means helmets are no longer made of polycarbonate? (haven't a clue what mine is made of) I've sent an email to AGV as wooly suggested so see what they say

The best thing you can use to protect it and stop rainwater getting under the other paint it to cover the chip with clear nail varnish. This was recommended by the Arai technicians at the BMF when I asked them about several stone chips on my helmet.
Works a treat. Still looks chipped, but it is protected.

No they still are, just usually the cheaper brands. Reason being they have a life span of around 2yrs give or take. Yours is not by the way, yours is fibre glass is memory serves me right (work in motorcycle clothing Embarassed ).

You will prob get no where contacting them yourself, find your best local shop which sell AGV, see what they can do. Generally its not much, vents etc can be changed but paint work is different. But they should advise you on whats best.

Oh by the way, good helmet you got there Thumbs Up
One way of spending a few hundred pounds Smile

Hi,

There is a lot a bull spouted about helmets. It seems if you get the tinyest mark its a good enough reason to go out and spend £300 on a new lid.

Yes they are important, yes they protect your head. The reality is your lid will get bashed about, it will get scratched and marked. As long as it not heavily damaged I would quite happily wear any approved helmet.

People seem to be OTT on helmet care but they'll quite happily ride around with knackered shocks, bald tyres and a un oiled chain. It just seems to me helmet care is pushed a lot more than it needs to be.

If clear nail varnish does no harm then why not try and get a colour match with the range of colours that are available over the counter at Boots or a similar High Street Store.

Approach one of the many heavily made up Assistants in the white dust coats, give them your Helmet and ask for a colour match from Estee Lauder Lid Accessories or alternatively Maybellene Motorbike Maintenance - They might even apply if for you if they've got a spare couple of minutes Thumbs Up

Exactly what I was going to say. Get yourself a bottle of colour matched nail polish. If you have a black lid, you might be best at a 'goth' type clothing shop rather than boots.

Make sure your mates don't catch you buying cosmetics though Wink
