So, after my little spill I emailed the various equipment manufacturers whose kit was tested in the accident, namely Arai, Dainese, Alpinestars and R&G.

R&G were the only company who responded, thanking me for the video (which I sent them on DVD) and the pictures. They said they owed me a favour so I mentioned that I needed to replace the damaged kit...

This morning one set of crash bungs and one set of swingarm protectors arrived - free of charge (£74 worth). Thanks very much Thumbs Up Mr. Green Thumbs Up

T'was good of R&G to do that, especially since they didn't really need to... Though I would have thought none of them would get back to you really, the others will probably think whats the point and bin it!

R&G are excellent, I called them up when one of my bolts snapped from the bung, 2 days later I had a free one come through the front door, couldn't have asked for more really. Thumbs Up

Bet your're glad you got that video now. Smile

It's worth the cost for them in terms of the advertising material and good publicity.

I think it was Maurice that got some free bungs when he threw his bike down the track, and he got a montage in a magazine!

This is the kind of thing that gets R&G the kind of reputation they have, coupled with a quality product obviously.

I think they are widely considered as the only kind of bung worth having.

Exactly and that reputation is more important to the company than giving away a few bungs. Whenever someone comes on here and starts a "what sort of crash bungs should I get?" thread (Of which there have been many! Laughing ) the answer is invariably R&G.

And yes before you ask my crash bungs are R&G too! Thumbs Up

I've only spoke to them on the phone once before and a very friendly and knowledgeable lady was able to help me straight away.

I had R&G crash protectors on my old J2 and have both upper and lower on my R1 and swingarm bobbins.

They're a very user friendly product too.

I wish they were that good to me, they charged me £15 plus P&P for a new bolt. Rolling Eyes

Got a response back from Arai today, more in line with what I actually expected:

"Thank you for your contact regarding Arai helmets.

I am sorry to hear that you had an accident , but I am glad that you are o.k.

"Arai helmet there is a difference" is an Arai brand statement that will now have more meaning for yourself and your friends, it is not all about colours, gimmicks etc. First and foremost Arai helmets WORK safety comes first, and there is a difference in the construction of the inner and outer shells compared to other helmet brands, of which you now have first hand experience.

As we have a heavy involvement with racing we already have a massive collection of damaged helmets and stories to support them, which we use to train and educate our dealer network in order to provide you our customer with more information about our products.

Thanks again for the info, I hope that you will be replacing your damaged helmet with another quality Arai helmet. Safe riding"
