Wotcha,

I'm off doing my CBT next week (mah knee is healed enough to use a gear change Dance! Dance! ), and one thing that I was told is that I needed to bring along some stirdy shoes, and trainers werent enough.

I popped into town and picked up some £10 walking books (not steel capped, got told they have toe choppingness effects), but I was wondering if the deep tread on the boots will make gear changing stuff difficult?

Ive been walking in them non stop, in an attempt to get some flexibility into them before Wed (blisters Sad ), so I can actually feel hoe much pressure im putting on the gear change (at least upwards) and was wondering if there was anything else I should do?

cheers,

cabbage

P.S. - little rant - Why the hell does nowhere do CHEAP size 13 boots??? I'm having to wear there size 12's and boy is my big toe uncomfortable - pushed in towards my other toes, the joint is killing!!! Aaaaaarg Mad

but still happy to be doing the CBT at last Razz Smile

I've never had any problem in Magnums, though the tread's not all that deep on them compared to hardcore hiking boots.

I'd think you'll be fine.

Sturdy shoes will do fine. There's NO laws which state that you have to wear any particular clothing or footwear. The only legal requirement is a lid to BS/EU Standards. But you will be advised on suitable biking gear during your CBT by your instructors.

I bought a pair biking Aqua Boots when I took my CBT, and I still wear them whenever I ride my own bike now. They're much, much cheaper than proper leather boots, but perfectly suitable for CBT and general riding.

You don't really have to 'feel' the gear lever as such, just so long as you can tell when you've actually changed gears.

Hope this helps.

Okay then thats a bit of a relief.

Hmm, a little nervious about the slow control stuff (falling over onto my bad knee, pleeeeease dont happen Praying ), altho' I think I'll be fine on public roads, 'casue I'm doing my car test in a few weeks so I know all of that stuff.

I just want to do it now, not have a build up of another 4 days!! Mad

if you have a deep tread, it might make it harder to get your foot under the gear lever, but after a few tries you will get use to it.

i wore steel toe caps when i had my off in october... pushed the caps back in the boots... and in my eyes saved my toes (all the leather was cut up where the caps are)
i still wear a pair now, unless i got my bike boots on
