A replacement one shouldn't cost you that much surely?

Sell your fairings and use the money to buy a new shock. Sorted. Wink Thumbs Up

To be honest, I wouldn't risk riding it around with a shagged shock, the handling is going to be terrible, back ends going to feel strange, and it most likely ain't going to do some other parts of the bike any good.

Well done stiggy. Would you like a chufty badge with that?!? Wink

Dransy, maybe you should test ride it for a bit then, see how it feels, If it feels alright, then maybe you could ride it til you can afford the shock. Just make sure it handles ok. You might get used to it after a while. I'm used to the MBX not going in a straight line! Something is bent, and when I straighten the bars, the bike drifts to the left! So I ride with the bars slightly to the right. Strange huh, but it doesn't feel much different than before it was like that, just a bit harder to keep it in a straight line. Laughing

Hi

It is not likely to damage anything else, but it will make the bike handle appallingly and if you lob it down the road that will certainly damage other things.

All the best

Keith

a mate of mine had an RS125 and the rear shock went just like yours did, its a while ago now about a year but i think, think, he paid £190 for a new aprillia rear shock. and we had to fit this ourselves would have been a few hours labour. Speaking to a guy at work yesterday who has a cagiva mito he had a rear shock just go and an engine seize, for these reasons i would never buy a 2 stroke sports 125. they look fantastic and ride very fast but are about as wallet friendly as a crack addict holding a knife to your throat.

also if it has p1ssed oil all over your back wheel its advised you get a new one otherwise oil can be absorbed into the rubber then replaced as it expands under heat, oil leaking out of your back tire is not advisable. personally i wouldnt bother though, a bit nanny state-overkill will probably not have absorbed any oil, give it a check though Thumbs Up

It's not that big a job!

2 people yes, take the tank off and then the airbox. Undo the bolts that the shock is held on by. Then if you pull the bike from the left side you can lif it onto sidestand and front wheel. Remove the bolts (you probally have to wiggle swing arm a bit)

Now take the shock out, it's akward to slide up and out but it CAN be done.

Reaplcewith new shock and do it all up again, by this time you will be quite hapy to stop holding the bike up. Razz

suspend the rear of the bike from a garage roof beam(or similar),and you can swap the shock in 20 minutes without removing the wheel etc Wink

Hi

It is easy to change the rear shock. Not a 2 person job at all. Get the back end in the air (2 car axle stands and a bar through the hole in the frame near the swinging arm spindle), undo the rear exhaust mounts to push it out of the way, undo rear suspension linkage and shock, then the top shock mount and drop it out.

No need to remove the rear wheel, although it does make the swinging arm light and easier to manipulate.

Aprilia rear shocks used to be cheap, but are now expensive for the short lived piece of junk they sell you. Think you can get an equivalent quality replacement for about £120.

And a rear shock going is nothing to do with it being a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Not really for the shock, just Aprilia use a really useless supplier for the rear shock. The Marzocchi item on the Mito seems pretty good.

Half the problems with the 125 2 strokes is the people who own them. First bikes so they are learning what happens when you screw around with things (they break).

The CBR may be more reliable (difficult to know yet), but a top end rebuild on one will cost rather more, and they are nowhere near as quick to stress items. fully expect the CBR brakes to seize up far more quickly than those of an RS or Mito.

All the best

Keith

Hi

For a touch more than an Aprilia one then just get a Hagon one. Easily rebuildable. Far cheaper I think that Betor make one.

All the best
