I had a Aprila rs 125 and it was very unreliable a few years ago. Iam thinking about getting a Sach xtc 125, but not shore. So could someone please tell me if they are really any good because bike shops just want to sell you one as do the web sites.

So,

Are they reliable?, can you leave it in the garage for six months and come back to it and it will start?

Top speed?

0 to 60mph?

Problems with them?

Thanks alot Martin.

A rs125 can be very reliable if it is well looked after (yours may not have been before you got it).

The newer sachs XTC is a four stroke and was priced high because of it's looks, not performance. Suspect they were only ever 12hp max 4 strokes as well.
Older ones were 2 stroke, so expect to be similar to the RS125.

A poorly looked after 4 stroke may not be much better than a poorly looked after 2 stroke of similar or high power.

In that case, how did you treat the RS? Warmed up well everytime? Maintenance when required etc?

Of course some bikes are always going to slip through, I've had a Honda with around 3000 miles that needed some work under warrenty to get it sorted.

Top speed is probably about a real 75mph.
Acceleration will be no where near a derestricted RS125 when used properly.

There's only 1 dealer in the country, in Devon. So if you're after parts, you have to get it from them. And they're not cheap.

You mean main dealer? Because you can buy them on the wirral.

4 stroke. Confused

The older 2 stroke has the DT engine. Thumbs Up

The seat looks very uncomfy. Wouldn't want to spend more than 5 mins on that. Thumbs Down

I think the XTC's are way over priced for what they are. I would much rather have an RG or NSR, simply because they're cheaper to buy, and parts aren't too hard to get hold of. The 4 stroke XTC just sucks really. If you are going to get one, then get the 2 stroke one. Made for performance not commuting like the 4 stroke version.

I am moding a Honda civic vti at the moment need to spend at least another £2.500 on it and get a run around car so I can cover the civic and keep it in the garage.

The old sachs had the TZR125R 4HL engine in. The DT had the same engine as the old kick start TZR.
The old Sachs did not have the old TZR engine and therefore was not the old DT engine.

The 4 stroke Sachs is obvioulsy more reliable then the 2 stroke competitors, but there is no reason why a 2 stroke engine cant be reliable if you do the right things by it, namely warming up correctly, take it easy for the first 5 mins or so, use good quality oil. Remember some 2 strokes like the newer RS125 (rotax122) has a certain plating on the cylinder so you HAVE to use fully symthetic oil , mineral based oil WILL knacker the top end. Also check your oil pump at the correct intervals, and finally learn about the bike yourself dont always trust even main dealers. Everyone has bad days even their mechanics. Friday afternoon when they just want to get home = rushed jobs.

Personally i think 125's should only be 2 strokes and 4 strokes is best left to larger cc'd bikes.

4 stroke 125 you are looking at 60-65 ish top end, and slower getting there. The only benefit is the slightly deeper tone and less smoke, oh and the non 2 stroke smell. Personally i think the noise of a 2 stroke is acceptable to all bikers as they appreciate its a little 2 stroke screamer. The styling of the sachs xtc is good though, but the 06 shape RS is better!

I was gonna buy one but didn't really know the history off it, and it looked as if it had been dropped.

2 strokes are quick but the road is a totally different story to a lane mate, you've 2 options here: 110+ mph or 60ish mph + reliability.

It's your choice, if you're on a tight budget and don't have money to service a bike all the time go for a 4 stroke.

But you can go for your direct access test since you're over 21 and ride whatever you want.

It's your choice, and whatever budget you have.

a mate of mine used to have a sachs xtc 125 4t

dont buy one

appalling quality of chrome/wiring/general finish

he bought it new, it looked 10 years old six months later

and it did 80mph if i laid on the tank

my moped was as quick(it was tuned a bit Laughing )

thinking about it
it was in a really low state of tune
there was no point revving it past 8000rpm
i think it was a suzuki dr125 engine?
