Can anyone help or at least reassure me??

My ZX6R (2002 J2) sometimes slips out of gear and makes a horribe rattle/metal destruction noise.

It usually happens when accelerating hard in 3rd(I think), then when I back off the throttle it happens.

It frightens the life out of me and frankly makes me look a tit!!

Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

Its done 19000 miles now

Whats an engagement dog? (Cog?)

Whats an undercut - isnt that a deeply unfashionable haircut from the 80's??

I've got an F1 and it did it occasionally when I bought it. I put it down to not putting in gear correctly. I changed the oil, adjusted the clutch cable and all seems fine.

Does yours just jump out of the gears whilest giving it some power?

I think it happens when I'm backing off after acceleration, like when slowing down for a corne

It only happens now and then but it is bloody annoying isnt it.

Don't mean to sound patronising, but do you have your toes on the pegs? The slightest bit of pressure on the gear lever would stop it completely engaging, happens on my MZ quite alot.

Although a whole different animal I know.

An under cut is cutting angles into the dogs so they physically cannot disengage under pressure.

I dont think I'm resting my toes on the lever as I usually have my toes well clear, with the balls of my feet on the pegs.

However, maybe I should be a bit more positive with the lever?

It happened to me again today changing from 5th to 6th.

Ho hum!!

Cheers chapps
