Paying for the missus....

I took my g/f out on the back of the bike last week (i just passed my test and got a big bike), she'd never been on one before, and she loves it.

So i told her that riding is even better again and she should think about doing her test, or at least her CBT. She said it sounds like a great idea, but i'll have to pay for her to do the test and stuff!

Now i dont mind having a pillion but i wouldnt want it to become a permanent thing. And I have so much more respect for a rider than i could ever have for a pillion (i was one when i was a kid, and how much skill does it take to sit still?).

Now I would love to see my g/f riding, and i know she would love it, but there is no way in hell i'm going to pay for her test/bike. I'm all for sexual equality, and I had to pay for my own bike/test, so as far as i'm concerned so should she.

That doesnt mean I wouldnt help her do it, with training/equipment/bike choice, and financially too if she needs it, but if she wants to do it, its up to her.

So what do you lot think? Am I being a skingy git? Would you pay for your partners test/bike?

If she REALLY wants to do it, then she'll be prepared to pay for it!!! Otherwise I wouldn't say she's 100% sure about it.

I'd be questioning if she's the right person for you mate.

If it's a serious thing and you plan on getting married or living as a couple then surely you should love her. And if you did then you wouldn't have even posted this pole.

Mind you, you probably got your head screwed on a bit tighter than me. Divorced twice form women I would have crawled over broken glass for once over. But while we were together there was no his and hers. It was ours. and now it's all hers

Dont even think about getting her a bike until she's done a CBT, then i suppose it depends how long you've been together!

could always do as im doing with my wife for her test etc...that is im matching whatever she saves.

we will by her a bike out of "our" savings but the test isnt,this isnt to be tight...its to make sure she really wants to do it as she has a short attention span(fickle)

Firstly: You need to let her know that you wont always be taking her pillion, because you will want some fun on your own. Secondly, why did she have the impression that you'd pay for it?!

Thirdly, when you're a kid the person riding the bike will go easy, so it's not difficult to hold on. I've got my own bike, but I went pillion for the first time in ages with my other half doing the riding - and I tell you it wasn't easy to hang on (he seemed to think he was on the track)! Next time you're Braintree way I'll get him to take you out and see how much respect you have for pillions then!

Pay for her to do a CBT, then if she doesn't like it then you haven't lost too much.

If she really does like it then you simply drag your heels about doing anything about it. If she wants to do it badly enough she will start doing something about it herself.

I have paid for my all my missus' kit, I paid for all her lessons, I paid for her SR125 (which I then sold on ebay for a profit ) I paid for her ZXR400 (which I get to use too), I pay for all the servicing to the ZXR and I insure the ZXR.....






I also usuallly end up putting fuel in it too......

As far as I'm concerned, our finances are a joint pool; there is no mine and hers. The good lady wife wants two wheels, who am I to say we can't afford it when I have a bike?

If I loved the woman, I'd pay so we can enjoy the same fun together.

As it is the missus is scared of the whole biking thing and won't go near it. A couple of dead friends and another with one leg (And he still rides!!)

This suits me as it gives me an excuse to go out alone and see the girlfriend Who, by the way loves riding, and I quite like the feeling of her warm place rubbing up against me as she holds on for grim death Haven't taken her pillion yet!!

Kidding.

Back on topic a bit, I bought the girlfriend a lid so she could ride pillion. If she wanted to ride and I could afford it then I would pay.

It has already been said, but if she is serious about wanting to ride a bike then it is something she will pay for herself. You can do a lot to help her, by taking her out after she has done her CBT and giving her as many 'lessons' and as much experience as possible. That alone would save a large sum of money that could otherwise be spent of a series of expensive lessons.

A slightly different situation, but I bought my Dad a CBT for his birthday a few years ago (about four years ago, when I still had my NSR) so he could ride my bike on L plates. He hasn't done anything about learning to ride properly, but enjoyed taking his CBT.

The CBT is an ideal 'present' because it includes everything - all the kit and a full day of tuition. If she really enjoys her CBT, then she will continue. Book her in for her next birthday

my wife and I both got into bikes at the same time.. (well actually - I decided I wanted a bike, dragged her round a load of shops looking at them until she fell in love with the RS125!).

she got me my CBT & DAS for my 30th birthday (and I bought myself a CBR600 as my 30th birthday present from me )..
I got her a new RS125 & her CBT for her 29th birthday..

Her dad paid for both of our helmets as birthday presents..

6 months later she decided that the RS125 was to slow.. so WE paid for her DAS and she sold her car (she got a company car insted) to pay for her VFR800 VTEC.

last month I decided that my CBR600 was to slow to keep up with her VFR.. so I sold my car (I got a company car) to pay for my Aprilia RSV Factory...

We buy each other presents (new silver visor for her helmet as a Happy Thursday present) (Carbon Hugger for my CBR as a Happy Saturday present) and everything is happy...

So, if it were me, i'd buy her a CBT as a Happy Saturday present.. Get her a cheap CG125 as a happy Sunday present.. and if she decides she dosnt like it, then sell the CG for probably more than you bought it for and never take her on the back of your bike again for making you waste the money on her CBT!
