I'm doing an internship in Washington DC over the summer, anyone know about renting bikes here? I'm still on a 33bhp restricted licence, but I don't think they have such things in the US!.... ____________________ Current: Yamaha Diversion XJ900

They don't understand about restricted licences in the US, they don't have them over there. In most states you do a theory test, ride round an off road training course for a bit then they print out your licence which lets you ride any bike. I reckon they would treat yours like an 'out of state' licence. ie. you get away with murder (and driving without insurance).
You'll pay through the nose to rent a Harley. You might find a couple of places that will hire you a goldwing or a big beemer.
Alternatively you could rent a small bike. I hired a 100cc geared chopper thing that went just as fast as everything else on the road (55mph max) for $30 a day. They didn't even ask to look at my licence for that, I don't think you needed one. Mind you, this was in Florida where safety equipment consists of a bandana so you don't get sunstroke. Different states have different rules. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

500cc would be fine, considering 125 is the biggest I've ever ridden and it would really just be a gentle ride around Virginia countryside. Frankly, even 100cc would be fine if it was cheap! |
Get a harley then.
Harley softail classic: 1450cc, 63bhp, 110mph
Kawasaki GPZ500s: 498cc, 60bhp, 130mph
Believe me, the power and speed is NOT going to catch you out. The riding position is very different though. The crapness of the brakes and handling might come a something of a shock if you are used to a CG125 though.

could be better off just buying a bike when your their, maybe pick one out on ebay before you go and cunningly time it for when you leave. Or just look once your their for something cheap. How long you staying? few months I gather? ("over summer"). Gonna cost a fortune if you want to hire something for more than a week.few days.
If their bikes are as cheap as their cars your laughing ____________________ -=[Sam/b]=- cx500's the only way to travel, we do it in style just like jimmy saville
