Pottering along at about 40-45mph towards a left hand bend onto a T junction and the front end started sliding out. As there was no oncoming traffic I tried to ride it out by going wide and across the junction, might have managed it if it was dry.
The bike dropped onto the left side and we gracefully slid about 60 or 70ft down the road, up the kerb and onto the grass.
I had just finished training so a couple of friends were following in their cars and were able to assist.
I looked up and saw a large cheveron turn sign ripped out the ground and thought - blimey! Did I hit that? Then I saw the hubcab laid next to it. I reckon a car has come off the road earlier, possibly leaving oil on the road for me to slide on. Evil or Very Mad

Luckily I was wearing some Dianese textiles I just bought off a friend (Literally bought them Sun) and not the dodgy Frank Thomas ones I had before.
They did split ever so slightly at the the seam near the wrist zip. Got a bit of gravel rash about the size of a 2p.

The bike - well, I rode it back to a friends about 1/2 a mile away. Left it there overnight and will have to get it picked up tommorow.
Then i'll have chance to have a proper look over it.

Initially it doesn't seem too bad. certainly could have been worse. As I said, i rode it half a mile or so. Every piece of fairing is now damaged! Lost the left side mirror and footpeg. Gearchange is still there albiet bent and the indicators still work!

Got it started and used 1st and 2nd gear, Im praying that its just plastics and sticky out bits damaged. Anyway - we'll see tommorow.

Still smiling Smile

Rick.

[safety nazi mode]

A bend is a bend, a junction is a junction, both needing a totally different approach.

Are you saying you were taking the junction as though it was a bend then?

No further comment needed ...... Rolling Eyes

[/safety nazi mode]

Glad you're OK though (you'll be sore tomorrow) and hope the bike isn't too badly damaged.

Nein Nein Nein Herr Babyyam!

It was a straight road which bends round to the left. Directly after the left bend there is a give way T junction onto a 'A' road.

I didn't even make it to the bend, the front end was slipping on the straight! I tried to keep it upright by taking a straight line directly across the bend and over the junction as there was no traffic comming. Didn't work though!

If car or big truck had been traveling in the opposite direction as you and your steed slid through the apex would you have been able to post this?

(Old Geeza Comment)

Good to hear you're OK and I hope the bikes only scuffed a bit.

Glad you're OK.

There's something about council responsibility - if there's a problem on the road, and it's been reported to them - and they haven't done anything about it in a certain amount of time - they are potentially liable.

Sorry to be so vague, but worth checking if it's been reported. Failing that - report it yourself, so the next person doesn't have it.

Dunno if it's already been mentioned but it's probably a good job that the sign had been mowed down in a previous incident as I wouldn't have fancied your chances in a high speed argument with it Confused
