I've just seen this on svrider.com, and at first glance it seems like an OK idea as I'd like to improve the sound of my SV but can't really afford a race can. However, drilling holes into my exhaust just seems somehow wrong. What are peoples thoughts on doing this, has anyone tried anything similar?

I'm not to educated in this stuff but my GUESS would be that it would just give you dodgy running conditions.
Just a guess! ____________________ [philcxiv] [lucky 14] "I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again"

Have to agree here, it can't be a good idea, otherwise it'd be like a top tip right? Personally i wouldn't do it. ____________________ A2 License

Sounds like the next step up from the poker and hammer to me. Crude and effective at making noise. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

The previous owner of my GS500 did it to his... i found this out when the guy at the MOT station gave me a right embarising speach about how silly it is to do so... ... but i didnt even do it?
Anyway, it makes your bike sound poppy... its not a smooth noise like a race can, its a poppy noise... i have a sound clip of what the GS500 sounds like with its silencer drilled a few holes in. It sounds cool for a while, but then you will get sick of it, and MOT stations can fail you for it... as mine did
Do what you think is right... at the end of the day, you can just fill the whole thing back up with gumgum to get it through MOT, or if you get bored of the noise.
See the sound clip attatched. ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

he's drilling holes INSIDE the exhaust pipe, at the end of the b affle.. effectively turning it into an almost-straight-thru the holes aren't visible from the outside.
It's no different, in practice, from removing the baffle all together.
what it COULD do, is if it lets the engine breathe more freely, then it may run a tad lean, and hence hotter.
