Hi all

I've just divorced and got re-married to my bike. (Don't start the violins please Rolling Eyes ) and am planning to re-live my 'youth' touring Canada with my bro.
My question is :- has anybody on here done that kind of trip and could they give me any advise on a few questions.

Like is it cheaper to buy and register a bike over there? or would it be easier to transport a bike to Canada? or

Who could I buy a bike from or who would I go to see to transport a bike over there to Canada, if I needed to?

Also does anybody have any recommendations for a bike that I should use, either Canadian/US or UK. I want a bike thats a bit more 'steady and sturdy' than my R6. I want reliability and comfort at low speeds rather than 'breakneck', kneedown acceleration Wink. Its gona need paniers and a big fuel tank - and I want to be able to drive over kerbs without leaving the exhausts on the roadside.

Also does anybody have any recommendations on places they think I should visit, all I have is a couple of damn tourist type mags and a map, and they don't have 'biker stop and cafes' listed in their index.

Any other advise you have would be great.

(basically I need someone to sort my life out - but I'm sure it will come up trumps)

Cheers --------

There was an english dude on R6 messagenet who spent a couple of months riding accross the States (on his R6), remember seeing the photos; looked like he had a real good time. Can't offer any advice personally though.

The only information I can give you is that bike insurance in Canada is very expensive.

Dunno if this will help but saw it while flicking thru Bike today: www.rockymtnmoto.com

Edit: Just had a look at that site.. seems like all the routes n stuff are formally organised but they do have their own bikes so I dunno if they run some kinda hire scheme?

Nice one.

I'll take at look at them, I've ordered a brochure anyway.

I'll update this thread after I've organised everything with the information on how I've done it and with whom to contact if anybody else fancies a holiday.
