My bike was nicked on the 7th of April. It was recovered two days later in a shit state (but possible fixable). They eventually decided to write it off. I got the cheque through the post today, some four months later AND it was made out using my middle name rather than my first name (although fortunately, my middle name is the same as ny Dads name so he is going to cash it for me).
Insurance policies are not worth the paper they are written on, the underwriters customer service is universally crap and they do not offer a good service for the price they charge. Do not expect to be paid promptly, paid without argument or paid the real value of the bike, if you get paid at all.
Bear the above in mind then you will not be disappointed.
What you need to hope is that it either turns up with no damage whatsoever (or very minor damage that isn't worth claiming for) or that it is totally mangled beyond all recognition so they instantly know it is a write-off. To be honest, if you found the bike before anyone else and it was in a bit of a state, the best thing to do would be to vcheck no one is looking and throw a match in the tank.
Sorry to be a doom merchant but insurance companies are all thieving, extorting, soul-less, mercenary bastards who are only interested in making money. They know they have you over a barrel because you are required by law to carry insurance and buy do they take advantage of it. It is tantamount to a cartell.

That sucks, it's really painful to have your bike nicked.
If you need the bike for work, you can either rent one and claim the costs from your insurance company, or the insurers might provide you with a courtesy bike. Give them a ring and see what they say. ____________________ Current: Yamaha Diversion XJ900

Insurers are the spawn of satan! try harassing them - try calling daily just to see where they are with the claim. I'm sure there's an insurance watchdog of some kind if its any longer than a month before progress is made, then kick up a fuss or try reporting your insurance co to trading standards for taking the p!ss lol whatever happens, the best of luck to you!
