Posted: 02:10 - 14 Aug 2005 Post subject: Why is my dad like he is? |
 |
|
well, when i was 14 years old my dad moved to spain, he bought a motocross bike 50cc for me and my brother to ride, when we visited.
anyway, one day he got it out, filled it with fuel and took me up to the back tracks round the back of the villiage he lives on. he went round with me on the back, and then he tought me how to pull away etc, he was running after me as im going along at about 10mph lol (poor old git) and then eventually i progressed and he let me go out and practice by myself.
i had been riding it about under the agreement i wasn't allowed on the roads, which was fair enough, and i didn't..
anyway i asked him if i could go for a ride up to some english freinds house and he said its ok just i had to be careful, which i was. one day i was riding to a party, this is where its my fuckup, i had a girl on the back who was wearing no helmet (she didnt want to mess her hair up... - typical woman) but i shouldnt have allowed this.
anyway, the bike only had low beam, and i kinda screwed up, i stacked it, came off the road coz i didnt see a corner, we both came off, i snapped my collar bone in half. of course i was uninsured, unlicensed, not permited to take passengers, she had no helmet etc etc.
anyway after hours of being in hospital (luckily she was uninjured) my dad had to go and talk to the police, he managed to get away with 1200 euro fine and the bike wasnt in that bad of shape..
anyway i come back to UK and 3 months later buy a bike, derbi senda, crashed it a few times nothing serious except for a non fault accident.
my bikes now been stolen and my dad really dosent want me getting a bike, he has offered to pay for a car, insurance lessons.. but not 1 penny towards a bike..
he had bikes all his life.. he crashed one too on the same road, and collapsed a lung...
what you reckon?
thanks,

After your complete balls up in Spain, I think you were lucky you were even allowed near another bike, and even then you crashed that!
Accept the car offer, get a license and some proper road experience and prove to your folks that your not gonna kill yourself - I mean, how would they feel if they bought you a bike that you then went and killed yourself on? (not out the question with your record).
Seriously, get some road experience and show your responsible (taking a girl without a helmet - you stupid idiot ) then maybe approach your parents again in a couple of years. ____________________ Past: Honda NSR125R >> Kawasaki ER-5a2 >> Kawasaki ZZR-600e1 >> Suzuki GSXR-750Y >> Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm

You are lucky that girl is alive and you're moaning about your Dad??
Your Dad had offered to get you wheels because you got a bit of growing up to do yet.
Take it. Prove yourself to him and then get the bike. |

but his argument about it is they are dangerous, thats the only thing.. then when i say they arent, i have nothing to back myself up, being in 2 accidents that have incurred broken bones i havent got the best backup when i say of course they are safe..
he says, get a car, you can take people about, they are safe, they are warm etc etc.. he goes through the advantages and says dont bother with a bike...
he KNOWS i will buy one though.. mind you him in spain its not like he can stop me.
however my mum dosent really mind i dont think, after all she sees it as a way to get me out the house, it means i am indepentant, not badgering her for lifts etc.
infact today she found out the extra cost of me going on her car insurance, £250... not too bad i guess! so looks like im going to be learning to drive ...
i dont see how parents cant understand that younger people just wanna have fun, i mean.. he had a bike when he was my age.. why should he do his best to make it difficult for me to have one..
i blame him, he introduced me.. lol
about the girl, that is quite honestly the most shit scary experience i have had in my life, the most stupid thing that could have had some major concequences.. and i mean MAJOR..
at the time of the accident i felt like shooting myself, dont lecture me on wether i was right or wrong, i can still remember the accident and the traumer.. dont want the lecture again. its not going to happen! ____________________ Derbi supermoto with cr500 engine, niceee |

i understand how it looks upon me.
i am not the best of riders, i can ride safely and generaly speaking do. i was wearing a helmet while i was on the bike, she was offered a helmet which she put back into the house. my helmet was trashed, it was an MX helmet and i got gravel embedded into my eyelid which was later removed my a scalpel, not something i want to repeat.
i am a very cautious rider i would say, having been in a non-fault accident i realise one of the dangers of being on a bike is that if a car hits you, innevitably you get hurt.. personaly a 4x4 pulled out on me when i was just going to work, broke my wrist and cut myself up a bit. wrote the bike off.
apart from that ive spilled the bike twice, once in snow coming off the main road onto a much more icey residential street and it lost grip, secondly in the rain going to fast round a corner, powerslide into a highside, i didnt injure myself from either crash or damage the bike.
how come im such a bad rider? ... how long is it going to take before he understands i am sensible on the road? he dosent live in the UK so he can hardly see me ride and choose for himself. ____________________ Derbi supermoto with cr500 engine, niceee |

i agree, but it feels like im being restricted.. if you get me...
if i talk to my dad on the phone and mention something about a bike, he kinda says ok and changes the subject, i dont think hes intrested, but well i'll give it a go and say something like, i rode back from such n such and rode every corner perfectly , didnt exceed the speed limit (honest) had a really great ride and blah blah see what he says..
ah well, cheers for help all

I think so dude.
We have an experienced biker who knows the pain of hitting the tarmac and his son has trouble staying rubber side down.
Maybe you should wait a little bit. A year or so 'til he thinks you're a bit more mature??
That really is the the nails head.
You Dad is looking out for you. |
