Anyone with any insurance companies or know of any companies that don't want proof of restriction (33bhp?)
This isn't because i want to be fast or whatever, just that most bikes don't come with the kits, and i can't afford to buy + fit one right now, though i will soon. Anyone?
Thanks, Tom.

Cia don't but... in the event of a claim (fault or non fault) they will want the proof otherwise you wont be insured!

Take the bike to your local bike tuning shop, and get it dynoed, that's sufficient proof for most things.

Either ask them to not open the throttle up as much, or just do something to stop the bike exceeding 33bhp (something like rag in exhaust etc.. don't know if that'll do the bike any good though).

Carole nash didn't either, but would require the certificate in the event of a claim.

It may well depend on which insurance company the broker is quoting you with.

They may well not ask for the cert if you had an accident that wasn't caused by excessive speed.

Well worst case scenario, you could be prosecuted for no driving licence, no insurance.

However in reality it's almost impossible for a copper to tell if your machine is restricted or not (unless you get caught well over 100mph). I have heard rumours of some coppers (with Vospa) stopping bikers in essex who had a dyno with them, but I suspect that to be bullsh*t.

Even this isn't a definate, the bike cops that pulled me either didn't know the fact that I am only allowed 33bhp or chose to ignore it.

138mph, they new I had just passed and that I was 19.

Im having exactly the same annoyance. Paid 200 for the cbr to be restricted -for 3 days- so id have the documents.

Now im getting a second (shitty) bike that alledgly i should have restriction for. Am i fuck. Its a racket as it is. Im hardly gonna get much fun dodging sheep through wales on a 13 year old vfr 750, and my restriction runs out in 8 months.

Its all a con. So i have to go 8 months on the vfr without getting into a big crash... Well i had to go another 8 months on the CBR without a big crash for the same reason. True i wouldnt have got in shit for a bike caused by another party as they wouldnt rip my bike apart. But they would probably ask for the certificate...

Do emi(sp?) keep records of who they restrict?

hehe, benefits of having an RS250, if I want restriction then I take a HT cap off, presto, for all intensive legal purposes I've restricted it to under 33bhp and I don't have to pay stupid money for a restriction kit. The police can feel free to check my bike whenever they want, doesn't take 2 minutes to pull of a HT lead.

I doubt any insurer will, as it's done on 'utmost trust'. The same way they don't examine your bike to check it's had no modifications. And if you did need to claim third party (doubt anyone restricted is fully comp) then the insurance company would pay the third party, and then chase you for the bill. That was my main worry, if I killed someone and I had to pay several million quid to someone to support them (obviously, I couldn't). So you'll still be covered for worst case scenario, but expect the insurance company to hunt you down and get a fair chunk of thier cash back.

They should leg tag you guys, you know the ones you cant get off like they use for day out prisoners, then they'll know what speeds you guys get up to and shuold be increased to the age of 25 till you can ride a 70bhp bike, only when you reach 28 should you be allowed to ride full powered bikes...... Police

nah, just kidding. I feel restricted bikes are dangerous but I am in favour of stricter driving test like I did when I was 21 on a 1100 in a far far away land, passed 1st time and I put it down to knowing my limits and not being limited by some out dated unfound reason by some thick headed idiots with power behind their flacky skin finger waving to a vote...
