These one-line sum-ups from TWO might help your decision.
Aprilia RS125
| Quote: | Flyweight GP renegade with rev-happy, tricksy powerband and sublime steering. Has never met one careful owner. |
Cagiva Mito 125
| Quote: | Harsh, revvy rasper in GP trim that delivers the big grin and occasional mechanical agony. Teenage rampage starts here. |
Honda CG125
| Quote: | The cheap and largly cheerless learner yardstick keeps you safe from speed cameras. Runs almost happliy on neglect. |
Honda CLR125
| Quote: | Skinny-ribs street-scrambler was a stop gap. Makes a change from the run of the mill L-plate hacks. Good value used. |
Honda VT125C Shadow
| Quote: | Less ghastly than a CG but nearly twice the price. Full 15bhp offset by corpulence. Low seat height saves it for little learners. |
Honda NSR125R
| Quote: | Flexible and frisky. Less spiky than the Mito and his mates, so sweeter for genuine learners. |
Kawasaki KMX125
| Quote: | Feels limp at 12bhp but a frisky muddy fox if derestricted to 24bhp. Useful commuter; excellent off-road. Suspension wears first. |
Kawasaki EL125 Eliminator
| Quote: | Learner cruiser overshadowed by Yam 125 Virago. Less glitz than most customs, so more robust year-round. |
Suzuki GS125E
| Quote: | Dependable, ecomonical single cylinder learner wheels. Marginally more cred than the CG so 30% more expensive. |
Suzuki GZ125 Marauder
| Quote: | Low, light, lithe, ludicrously cheap and not over-burdened with luxury. An ideal learner hack in mild custom clothes. |
Suzuki DR125SE
| Quote: | Tough little trail bike is hardly zippy but makes useful commuter or green laner. Suspension softens alarmingly with age. |
Yamaha XVS125 Virago
| Quote: | Dragstar can feel gutles and slow-steering but is light years ahead of archaic SR125 option. Older Virago faster on its toes. |
Yamaha TW125
| Quote: | Bonkers beach bike makes a rugged city slicker if you keep it nailed and ignore the anguish from the engine. Good visibilty too. |
Yamaha DT125R
| Quote: | Frisky learner trailbike looke the biz and is up for light off-roading. Good when derestricted but be aware of overtuned examples. |
