Posted: 10:20 - 16 Aug 2005 Post subject: Any bike being clamped? |
 |
|
...asking this question as I've been visiting my mother in hospital.
The parking is barrier controlled yet I've been riding round and parking up on an island part (central flower bed with semi-circular paved area at end the right size for the bike.) So at least I'm not taking up a car space!. This also means I'm not paying the £1.50 rate. The other night I finally walked past the company running the car parks warning signs (they're not positioned so you can read them while driving in). Reading it I'm a little concerned in case some jobsworth decides my bike's fair game for a clamp.
However, I don't know if a car clamp would fit a bike, and if it was tried would it be likely to cause any damage (thinking brakes/disc/forks here).
Any advice or other peoples experience welcome ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Car clamps don't fit bikes.
However... they only need a chain and padlock...!
Best thing to do would be to go speak to them in the office. Find out the score. If they say "you can't park here without paying", take a puck with you and stick it on the grass just outside of the carpark! |

Alternatively, find a flatish rock. Works for me.

Parking at the hospital is a bit of a joke though. I wish I'd had my camera the other week. Near the doors there's signs on the wall and floor say ambulance only and disabled drop off/pick up point. What's in there but 2 police patrol cars (not traffic) and one police dog van. I'm speculating here it was break time and they get a discount in the canteen

I think i'd also be sorting out a van or a trailer to get the bike home.
Then cut the b*****d off with an angle grinder.
. . . Dun that with a car clamp before now using a generator and angle grinder. ____________________ Matt |

I got clamped while I was in the job center!! left it out the back of the building where no car could possibly park so I thought it would be ok.
Came out to find 2 big dirty yellow clampsbolted to me bike, plus a load of tacky stickers with phone numbers stuck everywhere.
Bike was left 10 mins and I payed £85 cash to get them off ____________________ 2004 RSV Factory

I read some where that they have clamps designed for bikes now. Can't remember where I saw it though.
I once used a beer mat on a stone/gravel pub carpark. The bike was at a scary angle when I got back to it. |

So that the oik that did it couldn't come back and steal the bike later.
Have seen this attempted with push bikes in the past - someone did it to my dad many years ago in Reading; he got out his swissarmy knife and sawed it off, as it was a cheap one . |
