Hello,

Just a quick question hear, i have a gliera dna 50 and have recently brought a performance exhaust for it but when taking of the stock exhaust it has a pipe coming of it going to a filter which goes to where the variator and clutch goes. With the performance exhaust it does not have this, so the pipe is left open, also one of my friends said block it up, but should i leave it open or stick a performance filter on it?????

Thankyou in advance.

P.s. I think i remember seeing a website saying stick a small performance ai filter on it can anyone confirm this?

That small pipe to the best of my knowledge is what gilera called 'secondary air system', basically it pushes exhaust gases back into the engine to increase performance or something.

Whack an air filter on it and see, if it doesnt work then just weld it up.

Hi

Sounds like an exhaust gas recirulation system, pushing some exhaust gases back into the intake. This doesn't burn well and lowers the combustion temperature and so reduces the emissions of various oxides of nitrogen.

You probably need to find where it goes to and plug it up.

All the best

Keith

It goes to all the transmission is like the transmission belt, variator, clutch etc is, i have plugged it up at the momment, but has a really nice air filter i could stick on it, would it give it any extra power? Or could it hurt if i just put it on just for show Laughing Thanks

Hi

It probably goes to a small valve hidden inside the cases, and then from there to the inlet somewhere (possibly into the crankcases directly).

The above filter does look hopeful. However not sure what this will do to the jetting requirements.

All the best

Keith

It just lets clean air in I think, doesn't actually go into the engine crankcases, just the transmisson side I think. We dont even block them up, just fit the race pipe, upjet 4 sizes and put the right rollers in

after striping my mates Stalker back, we found out that it just goes back into the plastic engine cover (well this was air cooled)...He put a race pipe on his scooter, then just got a jubilee clip and clamped the pipe up to stop any crap getting in there.

He had to put the origional pipe back on for services though as it was still warrenty. Laughing
