Why would you lose your licence, killa ?

Got 3 points already within the last 2 years ?

If so, the next 3 points mean you WILL lose it.

Unfortunately, unless you've got an extremely good defence (which, I'm afraid very few bikers have these days), you don't really stand a chance against the law.

However, if you've got zero points at the moment, then what's your problem ? Just take the points, pay your fine and don't do it again.

For ages i have thought I was being dutifully good by only ever going 10mph over the speed limit which is what everyone else does anyway.

Recently I have caught myself doing 20mph over the speed limit occasionally.

I hope i dont get done by a van, as i only ever notice the fixed cameras.

Simple then, don't ride on roads where you're likely to get caught - stick to the quiet backroads or save it for the track if you really have to speed to get your motorcycling kicks. Keep your speeding for out of town.

I passed my full licence this year, i had my provisional for years.
I had 12 on my provisional but now they have expired and gone to 3, so with three more thats it i think.

You may have an excape there as you already had 3 points when you got your full licence. I think you are in the shit if you get 6 points within the first 2 years but you will only have you 3 since getting your full licence.

Unfortunatly not. It is getting to a total of 6 points or more within 2 years of passing your first test.

Unfortunatly it is.

Personally I suspect that they made a massive mistake when drafting the new driver laws and forgot about people being able to ride motorcycles and get points on their licences as learners, hence the horrendous fudge about needing 12 points as a learner to loose your licence and only 6 within 2 years of passing your test.

It seems to be getting to a total of 6 points or more within 2 years looses you your licence.

However, you just revert to learner status. There would be nothing to stop Killa walking out of the court and jumping onto a 125 with L plates as a learner.

This gets quite interesting, Keith, and it's a post well worth rating, I think.

Sorry if this is a bit long, but I'll put my case forward, then look forward to your own response, together with anyone else who can enlighten me.

I understand the 125cc law if you've got a car licence, no problem. But I'm a bit confused...

Firstly. If you're disqualified from riding (which is precisely what losing your licence means - including if you lose your bike licence because you've accumulated a total of 6 points or more within 2 years of first passing your test), then, according to the official DSA publication, your DL196 is also rendered invalid and CBT must be retaken. Therefore, Killa could not walk from court and jump directly onto a 125 without first re-taking his CBT.


Secondly. If you already have 6 points on your biking licence (excluding the automatic moped entitlement for car drivers), surely that means you're not allowed to ride any bike whatsoever on the road - including a 125 with 'L' plates.

Thirdly (and finally, for now!). If the two above circumstances are true. How long is it before you can actually start riding a bike again? Because, if you've already got 6 points or more, surely you wouldn't be allowed to take a test, because you'd actually already be banned from riding even if you passed!

All replies gratefully received. And I'm sure many other bikers would be interested to learn. For what it's worth, I've been driving cars for almost 30 years and I passed my A2 test a couple of months ago. I have never had points on any of my licences. But... Wink

Getting 6 points in your first 2 years means you revert back to learner status and you can ride a 125 on L plates.
It is not a disqualification from driving.
