Walking down the road tonight doing another night shift i saw something that does not help any biker at all Shocked

Coming up the road I see some kidee on his scooter with the what seems the usual bike gear for some one riding a scooter.. tracksuit bottoms, hoodie, no gloves. And to my surprise the TWAT Mad Middle Finger
he was writing a text on his mobile phone.

So who ever he was riding up brick lane east London your a prick and doing no biker any favours.

Lets see what the OLD GEEZA thinks of this one[/b]

Is that actually illegal? not sure if you are required to have a visor by law or not?

What could the police do about visorless riders? Nothing, as it's not a legal requirement. Most people on scooters don't have visors, as we tend to have open face helmets.

Yes it is, if the helmet is made to have a visor on it, its legal to have a visor attached, it can be open or closed but must have one.

I don't believe that's correct.

I don't think it's a legal requirement to have a visor at all. If it's there it's got to conform to certain standards but I believe that's all...

Otherwise open face helmets would be well and truely illegal.

There was a report in MCN not so long ago of a guy getting pulled by the old bill not so long ago for having his swivel lid open.

It went on to say that the helmet is tested with lid fully closed therefore only conforms to EU regulations and insurance this way. So does this apply to Visors Question Question

If the helmet hasn't got a visor haven't you got to wear eye protection (Goggles) instead?

Assuming by "Gold stamp" you mean the ACU sticker, that has nothing to do with weather it's legal for the road. It's for racing only. Smile

Hi

It is not unknown for the Police to confiscate visors ("as evidence") and send riders on their way with no eye protection.

All the best

Christ why do people preach without knowing the law.

All the law states is IF you have a visor it cant be made of stain glass as it will explode in your eyeballs.

Obviously if you were doing long journeys on the motorway and someone saw you they might say hang on, your gonna get an eyeful one day.

But its certainly not illegal, and ped boys are hardly going fast enough to be at risk 99% of the time.

As for texting, i would if i trusted myself not to drop my phone...

Having just done my test (and having 2 nasty coppers in the family) I can tell ya the following:-
If your full face helmet has a visor on it as standard, you must have it on the helmet whilst riding on the public roads.(open or closed)

If a copper pulls you for a dark visor in the evening/night, they can ask you to remove the visor. If you do not have a clear visor with you, you can be made to leave the bike where it is as you can not legally ride the bike without a visor on your lid.

(my bro is trying to find the artical number from the road traffic act, but I expect he will lose interest so dont hold much hope Smile)
