Welcome to the world of motorbikes Smile

See attached thread for some great info on licences etc

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=33113

There's also loads of info on other threads but if you're not sure about any particular topic do a subject search. If that fails post a question; someone out there will invariably have an answer.

Also, have a look at bike related papers and magazines such as MCN, Ride and TWO. Thumbs Up

Welcome gm-85.
So whats made you suddenly get into bikes then?. I bet you wish you got into them sooner. I know i do.
Its easy to get onto bikes aswell just pass a cbt and your on the roads check around for places near you doing courses.

Like daf says there is a few threads to help beginners like yourself (and me) because i've just started out.
enjoy biking

bikes are great and far more fun than cars

my rs125 only costs me £120 to insure but a fiesta would cost me £800 to insure. I have no no claims bonus on either.

an rs125 will do 0-60 in 7.5secs where a fiesta is more like 14secs

i could ride my rs125 after just doing a cbt which cost £50 but i am also taking lessons for my big bike test

unfortunately my bike isnt quite as reliable as a car, but once i learned how to clean the spark plug its not too bad.

if you do a full bike test, bike lessons are more expensive than car lessons but you will be able to get a more reliable bike at the end of it with blistering acceleration that would cost a fortune in a car.

the only downside is that people who are a bit careless or reckless tend to die. people try to avoid this by starting off on smaller bikes and moving up

once i pass my test i can buy an r1 which will do 0 to 60 in about 2.5 secs and insuring it will cost me £475. These bikes can go 200mph once you derestrict them so lots of people kill themselves.

I am 29 so your insurance wd be a bit higher. In theory you would also have to restrict a bike to 33bhp if you passed your test but many people dont stick to that.

the main thing is that bikes are fun even below the speed limit

even popping to the shops is fun
