I wondered that and have only just worked it out, it's because double bubble screens have two bulges in them, which raises the height (providing better wind protection). Probably easier to see with a picture

the main bubble is what potects you as the air is forced at higher speed than whats on the side, note the angle as it goes up on the side, this deflects the slower speed away from the rider, what are the benefits, lots, bike is more stable, if its raining and you're doing say 50~60mph it deflects rain away from you, most original screens actually create wind buffereing just in front of your helmet and is bloody awful, DB screens can also help with more miles per gallon, if you anyone does get one think of this as far as sfety goes, look at the finish on the top where its been cut, normally its just been cleaned up and has a square edge to it, get a screen trim for it ASAP, why, cos it will cut your bloody throat if you were to impact straight on.....
