Depends on what you plan on doing with it, how much you have, what roads your useing (most of the time), if your going to tour, or do trackdays, all weather or 3 day a year blats, passengers? luggage????

Theres allot of reasons to go for one bike over another, you'll need to think about what your going to do with it..

Wouldn't be my first choice (but then soprts bike aren't my thing)

A zxr400 is actually very good general use bike, passenger seat isn't bad (good enough to do 400 miles in one go with no problem) takes a bit getting used to though (after a mates first long trip he was about ready to die, but has not problems now) crap luggage capacity though (a pair of sport panniers and a rucksac, tank bag if your brave, your ok if your going alone as it can go on the passenger seat)

yzf 600 (thunderace) is another excelent bike, not as sporty, maybe a bit more practical..

zzr600, another sports tourer, very comfy, carefull of the gearbox @40k Sad easy going and easy to ride, not the fastest bike out but..

They all shift, zxr being the spotryest, the zzr is the best as far as touring goes (imo) and has hard luggage available.. the thundercat is afaik a bit of both..

Theres allot of bikes out there though, take your time, have a sit on some in showrooms, you might hate them instantly or fall in lurve..
Good luck

the yzf6 is the thundercat

the thunderace is the litre bike

i am going to buy a thundercat as my next bike or a cbr600f

as i need it for commuting 200 miles every weekend as well and there is no way in hell im doing that again on a sports 400 or any sports bike come to that

depends what you want the bike for obviously

I would conisder a sv650 as a first big bike. It's got a little more power than a 400, but got a broader spread of torque, making it better for 'everyday' riding.

If it's just for fun, I'd go for the 400.

I got a bandit 400v for my first proper bike, an excellent all rounder, was going to get a vfr 400 but this was much more fitting for my needs, would highly recommend one
