Honda MTX 125 - More Bad News :(

Hi all,

Im gonna be picking up an 89 Plate MTX 125 tomorrow,

im just curious what options do i have to increase top end speed and general handling.... does anyone know of a decent site for parts for this model of bike?

At the moment its in Black and Yellow but i intend to change it to all black....

Had a test ride last week and it rides so nice.... Better than the Pile O Crud Moped i have at the moment.....


Any Help Appreciated.....

Hi

Think they were mainly restricted in the exhaust, plus the ATAC mechanism was left out and the chamber welded up in the low revs position.

An exhaust should give a reasonable increase.

Hi i've picked up the bike and already problems have started, its liquid cooled and at the top of the system theres a tube which comes up from the engine and the cap popped off LOST today riding it, with this cap off it sounds completely ridiculous, like a heavy 4t thumper.....

Have made a quick cap with a plastic cap and jubilee clip but i need to know where i could find this part.... will post photos tomorrow.

Fixed the exhaust.. where the front piece enters the back piece the rubber had split... which didnt help the sound... got my mate to use a nice long tube of metal and push it on and use jub clips so i eliminated the rubber.

Hi

The cap on the ATAC chamber from what you said on IRC. Light alloy cap held in place with a small bolt.

The ATAC chamber on full power versions is only open at low revs, and closed off at high revs. Basically it is Hondas old powervalve system.

Hi people....

well today has been mucho fun, helped fix the exhaust on my mates escort.... then off for a ride... got a couple of miles out and yet again the engine noise became increadible loud, so i pulled up and checked the cap i bodged on over the ATAC chamber (it was still there see pic) so then i looked at the piece where the two seperate parts of my exhaust fit together (still intact) gave the bike a general check over and i found this see posted pic....

anyone know if that can be welded or will i have to replace it...

if i have to replace it does anyone know where i can get an aftermarket piece or a derestricted pipe?

Does anyone know if its possible to fit a powervalve into the chamber again? Or possible ways of doing it?

Hi

No really possible to fit the full power valve set up. So many bits would be needed. New barrel, new clutch cover, and all the bits to drive the power valve (it is operated by centrefugal force off the crank).

You should be able to get that exhaust welded up.
