Hi,

Do any of you do really long commutes? I'm talking like >= 150 miles round trip a day or something like that? What bike do you use and how do you find it?

Cheers,

Dan

Nope, I only commute 10 miles each day (5 miles each way) hence why I have downgraded from a 600. Smile

I don't commute far at the moment but i will be soon which is why i got a gpz instead of a sportsbike. Coming from a car that does around 40miles for a tenner, the gpz's fuel consumption is just amazing. I recon i could get 200 miles for a tenner, just the ticket for commuting.

I commute, but not that far ! Shocked

I just do 12 miles a day.
I have an FZR600, and it is okay on fuel. I fill up about once a week.
It tends to do about 200 miles on a full tank.

My CG on the other hand..wow !!
That lil' beauty used to carry me all over daily, and it cost £8 to fill her up once every 2 and a half weeks ! Thumbs Up Surprised
Shame it wouldn't go over 75mph Neutral

I only really use my bike for commuting and do 20 miles a day. However my mate, who rides a Yamaha FJR1300, commutes from Norwich to London and back again each day!! Now that's what I call a commute! His bike is only 2 years old and it's already done 48,000 miles. But he loves it and says the bike runs as sweet as a nut.

My bike hates me if I use it for anything less than a 10 mile trip.

I've worked out my commute (if I was to do it) would put roughly about 35000 miles a year on a bike!!! What sort of bike would I need to be looking at to do that?

CB500? ER5? CBR6? VFR750? Anything capable of comfort distancing but with equally good realiability.

For cheapness, a GT550 would be good.

https://members.aol.com/_ht_a/pjohnp/images/gt550.gif

Despatch riders do huge mileages on them, and shaft drive so you don't have to bother with chain maintenance.

If there's big motorway miles involved I'd be tempted to go Pan European though.

If I stay at my girlfriends' house I commute about 50 miles to work, so 100 a day.

Have been thinking for a while about getting some kind of rat bike for all these motorway miles. Something like a Fazer or Bandit, so that it would be cheap to buy/run but wouldn't be too boring either.

I do 40 a day on a rip off CG. The engine is solid, just everything else goes wrong with it! Still can't complain, it always get's me there and does 130 to the gallon!

60 mile round trip every day on the trusty GPZ500s. No problems with it at all. 280 miles costs me £16 in fuel.

I do about 18 mile round commute per day, usually takes about 15-20 minutes but have known it to take 8 minutes. (Hitting the limiter in every gear. Laughing )
