I have owned a Bandit for a couple of weeks now, initially it blew me away as its my first bike, but it very rarely catches me by suprise these days Smile

Just wondering, in the grand scheme of things, how does the Bandit compare to other 600's of the same class or even 400 sports for acceleration ?

Just wondering because i met a guy today who swears blind that his CBR400 is alot quicker than a Bandit 6

Thanks

Sam

A good rider on a sports 400 will waste you. So yes, it could be quicker.

The Bandit 600 is under powered compared to sports 600 (about 85bhp compared to 100bhp). But it is more powrful than a sports 400 (about 60bhp).

It'll still keep up with 600s with the right rider on it though.

Unless you are taking it to the redline in every gear, you aren't riding it as fast as it could go. Yes, you are maybe getting used to the power - but are you really using all the power???

I doubt you are, especially if you have only been riding a couple of weeks. Where do you change gear at? (in rpm?)

The way I always view this situation, is that the bike will always go faster than you are willing/capable of Thumbs Up

Hope this helps

Mark

It's all down to the rider, I seen a guy on a 96 Bandit 600 blow Ninja's 600, 636 and a 10R out the water on a run...

But if you want more WOW factor, a sports 600 will deliver but then again, you might grow used to that too.

Seconded Thumbs Up I was too used to driving a car before I got my (very old - 1st generation) CBR6 and as such changed up way too early...

Take the Bandit to the redline and you may get a pleasant surprise Wink

Sports 400 will probably have a handling advantage not a power one!

Get it to do some power wheelies and you might still surprise yourself. Smile

I too have been riding a bandit for the last couple of weeks and like you, kind of felt that the thrill factor was waning a wee bit. I voiced this to a buddy of mine who has been riding for 30 years. He suggested I went out pillion on my bike with him riding. All I can say is, I've got a bloody lot to learn!

I am beginning to overtake a lot of sports bikes on country roads around me.

Now this does not mean I am good at all...I am not...

They are amazingly shit.

It is actually amazing the amount of people who buy sports bikes but are too afraid of them to make decent riders. All they're after is an image and on a whim they bought that image. I got caught up behind a guy on a gsx r a couple of days back and he was the perfect example. I overtook the lorry that was behind him, did the decent thing and tucked behind him giving him the chance to overtake the van and lorry that were infront of him before I did. No chance, he seemed intent on being stuck amid that lot doing 50mph. I stayed put for a while, got fed up, passed all three in one manover and had an open road.

Maybe he was just chilling for a bit?

I sat in traffic for a bit yesterday, I could have got past it but 200 miles into my trip I was tired, my wrists hurt, I needed a pee and my mind was wandering. Just felt like bimbling for a few miles and taking it easy. So I did.

I love the way most folk on here assume that other people are shit just cos they're not going like stink every second of the day. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, if the Bandit's not doing it for you, and you are actually changing at the redline and not at 3000rpm... downgear it. Will make it a different beastie. Thumbs Up

The Bandit still has the ability to shit me up at 33BHP and this after a whole summer riding. Usually because I am arms length from hitting a bush. Laughing

I might do. Depends what my reason for chilling was.

Not picking on just your post, it's just struck me as a common theme on here.

I was taking it easy on that said road.

I dont ride flat out all the time.

You get a lot of born agains around here who simply cannot ride for shite.

I remember getting behind an R6 and a FZR on my old ER-5 on the way to squires. along the straights they were much faster than me, got to a corner and they simply wobbled around it.

I stayed behind because I knew as soon as I got to a straight they would just overtake me again.

Presumably because older riders tend to have the wits about them (most of the time) and are genuinely scared of what could be around the corner. Hence the lower insurance rates. Smile

The road isn't a racetrack so why judge someone's riding style as if they were racing in MotoGP, we all have limits and i'd rather hear of someone keeping to their limits than their brand spankers R1 in a ditch.

/Grumpy old man mode off. Laughing

They might just not know the roads. Riding quickly (even on my bike) on unknown roads can be scary and is probably more dangerous than I should let myself get. Let it stretch its legs (haha) on the straights, but an unknown blind corner will keep the pace down.

Riding the road from Claycross to Mansfield while still half-asleep at dawn with useless headlights, complete with off-camber, gravelstrewn, down-hill, blind, right and left handers was a bit of an eye-opener. Laughing

Going back to the topic, I personally think the bandit is a good tool - if you can get past suzuki's build quality on the machine (rear frame rusting welds etc). I personally have a cbr6, I would say Im an average-slightly above average rider and at times I could be described as 'the nutter at the front of the pack', so Im no stranger to having the odd challenge. I had a 600 hornet for a hire bike (see avatar Very Happy ) and I would consider that to be a direct challenge to the bandit in the class stakes. Me and a guy that was chasing me on another hornet came to the local dragstrip known as 'clints' which has a crawler lane. We came up behind a bandit, you could see him go for it and the pair of us wasted him like he wasnt there, was pretty dissapointed in the bandit to be honest. Its all relative though, Im beginning to think my cbr is getting too slow for me. Wink

You have to remember the bandit has 14.6hp and weighs about 3 tonnes though.

The Hornet weighs 180 kilos and has 95? hp

Jordan, that's over 3 lines of text in your signature.

Quick, remove it or the powers that be will have you hung, drawn and quartered.

Sorry, but dodsi got bored of his bandit 600 in less than 2 months, I don't think I can rate them. Hornet's however....now thats a proper naked 600. Wink

I went out for a ride today, and found it to be quick again lol I guess it depends how you feel like riding. The bandits power is mainly between 7 and 10.5 thousand revs, dont get me wrong its not a slow bike by any means, but i was just wondering what it is like compared to other 600's of the same type, i.e Hornet, Fazer,

Like I said, the bandit is quick but others such as an 85bhp hornet will out pull it. Can't vouch for any other naked 600, as for the sports I have only ridden a ZX6r and CBR6 and both would eat it for breakfast.

The hornet is a good bike but you can't help but want some suspension adjustment as it wallows around bends and stuff. Wink

I can still have fun on a 1986 air cooled 125 with a bendy frame and slightly bent handlebars. If you just want to belt a bike in a fast line get a ZX12 or a Busa. Otherwise stick at it and just try to get on with the Bandit. Or perhaps you just dont get on with the bike.

Banit 6's can be bored out as well I beleive. Wink

It hasnt caught you out yet because you havent been trying to put down power whilst it's pissing down with wet leaves all over the ground and your visor steaming up with spray being chucked up by all the oterh vehicles. Stick at it for a while.
