PostPosted: 10:58 - 29 Aug 2005    Post subject: Why me? Reply with quote

As i posted earlier in the week, i bought a new bike. I started it up yesterday, had a small ride, then brought it back for a good ol' wash! Once nice and shiny, i went in and watched motogp, had some lunch, and a little nap. On returning to the bike a couple of hours later, it refused to start, with or without choke, won't bump, nothing. I'm getting worried now that i've fucked it up.
When i bump it, the engine whirrs but just will not turn over. Any suggestions? Sad
Thanks,
Tom.

Is it turning over? You haven't just flicked the kill-switch (I do that so many times when I wash the bike)

Ah well, that's the full extent of mechanical knowledge exhausted then Wink

You might want to post this in the Workshop forum instead, more likely to get a (useful) answer.

So you washed it. Went inside. came back out, and its not starting.

Does it have an air box or Open K&N style air filters?

If it has open air filters, then you may have soaked them in water. But still, It should atleast fire. Confused

If its not firing, then it must be somthing to do with the ingnition (i.e. Killswitch, HT leads)

You sure there is petrol in it. Put it on Reserve and then try.

Wouldnt of thaught the washing of it could of done it. Confused

You sure its not in gear and the side stand is down?
The switch on the side stand may have became a bit faulty. It does happen...

Umm, Thats the end of my knowledge too im afraid...

Ummmm... Try turning the kill switch on and off a few times. If its never been used, and the water has gottn into it. maybe it could of caused it to connect.

Maybe? Confused

Fully charged the battery, used a car battery to give it that bit extra and still nothing. It's flooded, but the fuel just wont evaporate. 3 or 4 bangs, a few coughs n splutters, but just will not kick. I hope it sorts itself, cause this is taking the piss now.

If you've flooded it take the spark plugs out and dry them.

Try push starting. This works if I flood my CBR4.

Also check fuel / fuel tap etc.

Then check for a spark.

Sounds like there is water in somewhere.

Spray WD40 all over and in anything electrical you can find. Pay particular attention to the switchgear, coils and HT leads.

Check the coils, on my MT50 if it was subject to heavy rain (not sure aboout washing it, didn't do that enough to know) the coil got wet and it died. If it is the coils stick some sort of plastic bag or binliner over it.
