Hi,

Just won a steering damper on Ebay and its arrived.

It seems ok, but was just wondering if there are any problems that steering dampers can give.

If there was a problem with it / it was knackered, what would it be like (would it not move, would it be covered in shite etc.

Its probably normal, but when u move the rod back and forth it makes a weird noise (sort of slimy sound) but it aint leaking. The rod is slippery (i imagine it is some sort of lube, clear not black or shitty).

Just checking its normal.

Thanks.

First of check the rod, if it has marks on it then its not to clever and might need changing.

Check that no oil builds up on the rod during use, if it does the seals are gone.

If there's next to no resistance on it then it may well have lost pressure.

And check nothings bent.

Best thing to do with any of them is send it to the manufacturer for a service.

People say you dont need them on the road, but im so glad I've got mine, and I've tried to ride without it, and it just doesnt feel rite!!.

What sort of damper is it???, Sprint, Ohlins, Arrow etc.

Its a Sprint side mount damper for the ZXR400. There are no marks on the rod, and everything seems straight. I can't test it until I get a new chain for my bike.
