So have any of the young guys here passed at a young age and then taken the advanced test (so you can ride a big bike immediately) instead of waiting a few years to get on a big bike? What are your experiences/comments? Is it worth it etc?

Thanks,

ATS. Cool

There's no such thing.

Other than the accelerated access, which just means you can cut short your restriction period once you hit 21.

Many many 21 year olds have done DAS on here and bought big bikes if that's what you mean...

Im too young still (at 20) to do my accelerated access.

If I could do it I would do it!

When I am 21 I have only a few months before restriction is lifted.

I don't get this Accelerated Access license. Once I pass CBT, then do theory and hazard perception, I then do a practical, and once I pass that, I wait 'til I'm 21 and do a AA test, and then restriction is lifted immediately, is that correct? And in the mean-time, it WILL have to be restricted?

Oh excuse me then. I thought there was a way of getting to a bigger bike quicker than just the accelerated access route?

I thought it was after two years that the restricted license became unrestricted, so if you got a restricted license as soon as you could at 17 it would become unrestricted when you turn 19 and 21 is the minimum age for doing an unrestricted license straight away (DAS).

I didn't have to go through all this though as I did a DAS when I was 24.

This might help to clear it up properly:

CATEGORY A2 - Standard Motorcycle Licence

The practical test for this category must be taken on a motorcycle of between 121cc and 125cc that is capable of achieving not less than 100kph. On passing the test the full licence allows the rider to ride any Motorcycle without L-Plates up to a maximum power output of no greater than 25kW (33bhp), for a period of two years. After the two year period the Licence is automatically uprated to allow you to ride any two wheeler ever built.

If the test is taken on an automatic or semi-automatic machine then the licence will be endorsed with a restriction limiting the rider to drive only automatic and semi-automatic machines up to the power limits as above.

Training and testing for Category A1 and Category A2 (restricted) are the only options for learner riders under 21 years of age. The effect of this legislation therefore means that for young riders, no one under the age of nineteen will be able to ride a motorcycle more powerful than the 33 bhp limit.

I'm 19 though MJ, so I would be 21 before the two years was up, I'd have another seven months to do. This is too bloody confusing. I'm 19 and six months old. Do CBT, do theory and hazard perception, then what, do you do a practical or do the AA? Can someone please tell me this. I'm going to have a thorough read of that site as well MJ.

I've just had a quick read, and I think I have it, please feel free to correct me:

Pass the CBT, theory and hazard perception. Then do a practical and be restricted to 33bhp (So if I got a ZX-6R it would have to have a restriction kit on it?), when I'm 21, I can cut short seven or so months of the the restriction by taking a Accelerated Access test and if I pass that, I can ride any powered bike I want without having any restrictions in it?

Yeahh I thought the 33bhp would be worse than what it was but its okay.

Mines quickly excellerates up to about 95 and there it stops.

Which is fine by me, touch a tonne and its a ban.

ER5.

It realy does get to about 95 v quickly.

but thats it, maybe if I held it down it would gradulay go more.

But not worth it up here, mate got caught doing 108 and got a ban.

Stick under a tonne and its points time.

Which is why im not too fussed.

My call will do about 130, but never been above 80.
