Didn't pass, didn't fail.

Took my test this morning after 2 days of training with a local riding school. Apparently I was riding pretty well until the instructor decided to terminate the test . The reason was I was riding at around 25 mph, firstly because of parked cars on both sides of the road, then because there was a sign saying I was leaving a 20 zone which I wasn't aware I was in, then because I was in an industrial estate with a bad surface and blind corners. Turns out the 20 was refering to a side road which joined my road, but the others I thought were justified.

However, the tester didn't fail me since my bike is a grey import and I havn't had the speedo converter calibrated, so as far as he knows I thought I was doing 30 with a dodgy speedo. I can get it checked over for free by my dad's cousin (a local bike mechanic) and then take the test again as soon as I like, and since he started the test without confirming that my speedo was accurate, he said I may even have a case for a free retest. According to my test report I had already clocked 3 minors for inappropriate speed, so if he'd carried on with the test it would have been a fail anyway. I had no errors for the U turn, emergency stop or anything else, which I suppose is a good sign although I was only 15 mins into the test. All in all it could have been worse, so I'm just waiting for a call from the riding school since they've agreed to contact the DSA and see what's happening about a retest. Still bloody annoying though, 2 days of exhausting training just to lose it on something daft. At least I'll get a chance to practice the test routes a bit more.

I was under the impression they can only terminate a test for a serious problem, hell doing 25 in a 30 I would have thought would be wise considering conditions and all, I would be highly pissed off, its not illegal to ride a bike/car in KM, you will find it useful to have markers on there to indicate 30,40, 70... what a bugger

Well I've checked my speedo and it seems like it's reading OK. I should hopefully get another test in within a week or so, depends how long it takes them to process the report. At least there's Leeds Festival to look forward to in the meantime!

I recently failed for swerving to avoid a rock in the middle of the road at 5mph, if i'd hit it i would have come off the bike. Examiner claimed it was a wobble and that i didnt have full control of the bike - this despite having no other minors apart from 1 for hesitation at a roundabout.

Still rebooked and just keep trying i guess, my pretty thundercat will have to wait a few more weeks

Yeah, cheers. He seemed like a decent bloke, he said my ride was fine other than crawling everywhere! I've got a retest booked but the DSA said that since it was my bike that was at fault I can't have it free. They've also said that they'll only let me take it on my bike if I get a speedo overlay because they can't argure with one of them. I dunno the specifics, my riding school dealt with them but they're giving me a few hours free training in the morning before the test, which is good of them.

I was under the impression you would not have been allowed to take your test with a bike with a KMPH speedo.

One of the reasons I did my test on a CG125 from the local training center.

well i did my theory test on the wednesday spent 5 hrs riding with an instructor on the thursday and then today i passed with 2 minors. here come my SV650s cant wait i pick it up on thursday

I stuck an overlay on it, looked as ugly as hell and was harder to read than my supposedly erroneous clocks. Yesterday the examiner didn't even comment and I passed with 7 minors, got a couple on the emergency stop, which was annoying. I'm looking at a Bros 400 once I've sold my CG, it's still very shiny and only cost me £650 so with any luck I can actually make some money on it.
