Hi, since pretty much new my bikes fork seals continually go - and they go bad when left for 5 mins there'll be a puddle of oil on the wheel, now absolutely lots of this has gone on the tyre recently.

I was wandering if it's gonna get soaked up and if I'd be able to get a new tyre from the garage as it's still very slippery.

They ruined the forks by putting RWU seals in a USD fork leg - nob ends lol, I have a new fork set on order.

What's your opinion on my rights as to getting a new tyre, and also what's a good option to get the oil off my tyres - the garage says petrol but I'm a bit unsure about that....

Alternatively there is a product made by Yoshimoto, called "Anka-D-Manka" - It's designed to be used as brake and clutch cleaner.

That is: It's not harmful to rubber (would damage brake piston seals otherwise), dissolves grease and evaporates with no residue (useful for maintaining friction in the brake system). I have in the past safely used anka-d-manka to dissolve and clean gearbox oil from my tyre without any problems.
I say this works pretty well, but obviously it's down to you whether you want to spray a type of degreaser on your tyres. Sounds like a stupid idea, but it has worked for me.

When my Lubeman leaked its oil resevoir over my back tyre I went and used the wheel cleaning brush at a jetwash, as it pumps out loads of hot, soapy water through the bristles which seemed to get all the oil off fairly well. A couple of cycles of soap, rinse, check for oil, soap again etc seemed to do the trick and cost about a quid I think. I did take it easy on the tyre to start with just in case there was any residue but it seemed fine.

I've always just used washing up liquid, a little water and a scrubbing brush every time in the past, and it has always worked fine. Tyre rubber gets a very hard time being stretched and scrubbed about over the road all the time, scrubbing it with a brush and strong detergent won't do it any harm.

Hi

I will 2nd that one. Seals are seals. They are sized, and come in various specifications, such as on which side the are sealing. On most they only seal in one direction. My guess would be that they put seals in such that allowed oil out but nothing back the otherway, and that the forks just ran dry of oil and wrecked the bushes (if fitted, some cheap forks just run without bushes).

All the best

Keith

Probably very true my forks have been very low on fork oil before - made a loud clunching sound when the front dipped down - maybe that's damaged them, but oh well lol nice new gold forks Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy lol.

Although they've taken 2 months from the derbi factory - why is derbi so bloody slow with warentee claims?!?!?!
