Basically, wanted to be further persuaded by people opinions of them as I think it's the next set of tyres to be put on the hornet?

The M1s are decent enough tyres, sticky enough without wearing out too quick, alright in the wet too but if you do a lot of commuting/motorway riding they will still square-off.

Maxxis supermaxx are a carbon copy of the M1 and handled just as well (if not slightly better) on my MZ supermoto. They are a good bit cheaper but made in Taiwan.

had sportec M1s front and rear on the 'ace...

performed well, both on trackdays and touring france 2-up, although the rear did get a bit square.

Got a Dunlop 208 on the back now, cos it's all the shop had in Louth when I got a puncture at Cadwell, but the sportecs are definately decent rubber.

I should add that I found the profile on my front one a wee bit steep. I normally used a 120/70 Pirelli on that bike but in the Metzeler I dropped it to a 120/60, to be honest it would probably have stood a 120/50.

Used them on my old 954 Blade and found them to a nice easy going stable tyre. Plenty of confidence in the wet and good enough for A/B road blasts. The local tyre fitter told that the Pirelli Diablo is more or less the same tyre but using newer technology.

...so generally a very good all-rounder for fast paced road riding, but prone to squaring off?

After how many miles of riding would you guys say the squaring off started to affect the handling...only asking because I'm also toying with metzelers roadtec's too...being both a london rider but also doing A-road blasts...it's not so easy trying to compromise. Confused

Squaring off shouldn't really occur unless you do a 20ish miles or more commute each way on a motorway or similar.

All depends on the route you take. If you do square it off, I do a special tyre reprofiling service. All it costs you is the price of a trackday... Cool

nope.. the squaring only became apparent after a 2000 mile trip around france, 2-up (lots of straight roads in France)

should have made that point more clear.

You have to bear in mind that I had them on a 660cc single which eats tyres at a frightening rate and was spanking their arse down to the wear bars in 2,000 miles tops. A 2-300 mile run on the motorway had them looking pretty square on that bike but a back-road blast sorted them out again.
