My next 125 purchase

Recently lost my beloved NSR in a crash.

I want to get away from the back ache of leaning down and racing around.

I feel like a bike similar to the Honda CB125T that is easy to get hold of.

Any one care to give some advise?

Please dont say the CG125 because they look gay.

Well that's a CG125 dude!

Mine rides good... Got more than enough power to get ahead and into lane from the lights... Tops out at about 67 (Indicated 72ish) but will hold steady at around 55 for dual carridgeways...

Mine's not missed a beat at all, has four hooks under the seat to hook up a cargo net (If you're looking for something like that), brakes are only double drum if you get anything before 2002 (Like mine) but think of that as a plus point as they aren't affected in the wet!

Mine's started first kick every time, even after being left outside uncovered in a freezing cold downpour! Again, you will find an electric start on anything newer than mine (2001) and a front disc.

Fuel economy is awesome... I have spent about 35 quid and done nearly 1000 miles!

Handling is good, I can scrape the pegs on it and tyres feel very confident considering the low profile, I have no worries at all cranking it over in the wet and they've only stepped out once over a drain.

The gearbox is very smooth and theyre very easy to keep in power and hold.

The seat and riding position is extremely comfortable... I've ridden for two hours constant and still been awake and up for more.

Bad points are the brakes really, not as good as discs, and they have the power of a lettuce if you mess gearchanges up.

(BTW: I picked up a 3000 mile 2001 model Cg for 875 quid, this was a good deal, but shop around and you'll get a 1999/2000 with a few more miles for the same price... You'll also get smartwater as standard most likely)

How much are they brand new?

The insurance company said i can get any bike and put in on the insurance, so that helps!

I will have a good look round...

There is a Suzuki GN Enduro for sale... i dont know what everyones views are on these bikes.

Well, maybe a tad, as I am a woman and I LOVED mine !

A brand new CG will cost you 2K.
The new ones don't have that lightning zig-zaggy thing on the tank either (I didn't like the idea of that). It's just a plain tank.
My bike was a brand new 04 model and it was mint.
Sold it 2 months ago for an FZR600, but I still miss the lil' CG
Nice to ride..easy to swing about..does about 75 on a good day (such as today).
Quite comfy too, no leanange, and the seat is soft and springy.
Mine was blue (best colour).

Your fuel economy will be brilliant. I only filled mine up about once every 2 and a half weeks (for about £9!!!)
I travelled about 10/12/15 miles each day on it.

Oh, and another point, if you get a quite new CG it will NOT have drum brakes. They will be disc, and they are quite good

but you will miss the kick which you NSR gave you. Your going to miss being able to drop down a gear hit your power valve and over take

Going from a sports 2-t to a road 4t is a big jump down the hill if you ask me.

The CGs are lovely bikes if you just want go goto work on them and pop to the shop.

Not the best 125 to go out on ride out on.

you wanna get a honda nsr125f !

Its a great bike for its money i payed 400 pounds for mine and ive been racing it in a quater of a mile racees. ive been getting up to 75mph in a quater which i think is realy good! there was nothing wrong with the bike at all when i brought it and there still isnt! great bike! ow and i raced my mate when he was on his 2004 nsr 125 and beat him.

might I encourage you to peruse MZs fine range of 125cc 4-strokes. Far from 'gay'. Their own engine too which is sleeved down from 180cc (no you can't before you ask, not without a lot of work) and so is ultra reliable.

Rolling chassis spec. (brakes, suspension, wheels, fastners) is the best I have seen on an 'out of the box' bike.

I would have bought one out of Bike Trader if was willing to travel a fair bit... but im not...

Haveing been there and done that i'd go with an mz or a nekid nsr..

The cb is significantly quicker than the cg though (and a bit heavyer) but more complex and more suseptable to going wrong big style..
