This might seem a really dumb question..........but, do Scottoilers fit/work on bikes with fuel injection? I'm new to this crazy FI world!

Yes they do.

My FI SV650S has had one since new, works perfectly. But I can't help you with fitting because it was done by the dealership before I collected it. Soz.

If you plan on doing some miles and/or some winter/wet riding then I'd recommend one everytime, It'll more than double/triple your chain life.

scotoilers are reasonably easy to fit and if set up properly will stop you having to lube the chain.i dont use one because i clean and lube my bike all the time if you ride all the time in all weathers it could save you a bit of hastle but i prefer to have a good look at the chain when i lube it and also check for tightness, wheel bearings and things, cos fireblades eat rear wheel bearings.
by the way modern x ring chains have very good seals and need very little oil

Their website has loads of fitting info to particular bikes. For FI bikes it's just a case off fitting the pressure pipe to the throttle body in the same why as a carb so there is no real difference.

The main benefit is that you know that your chain is always lubricated and your chain life is much longer. For a bike without a mainstand its almost invaluable as it means you don't have to keep risking the bike attempting to get it up on a paddock stand!!As a further bonus, if set up correctly your back wheel will stay clean as the oil rate is fully adjustable so its easy to fine tune a balance between keeping the chain wet yet minimising fling-off.

Some will say don't fit one as it will mean that the chain will be neglected as you won't bother to check it properly/regularly which is a load of crap as its not the scottoiler's fault if you don't check your chain is it!

Scottoilers
Good Points
Extremely robust - no wearing parts.
Automatic On-Off with engine.
Easily adjustable oil flow.
Valve unit can be mounted anywhere on bike, (even works on it's side).
Can Increase chain life

Bad Points
Can be difficult to install.
Oil collects near the gearbox sprocket and can drip.
On somebikes has to be cable tied to swingarm (looks fugly)

I just use a oil spray once a week myself.

I have a duel injector on my bike works a treat has to be said, chain allways is clean, the oil cleans off really easy compared to thick old chain lube.

And for what? a few cable ties? Give me the cable ties any day!

It shouldn't do... If it does, then the flow rate is set too high.

No it only flows when the bike is moving.

They are really good, my dad has one for his bike.

I am pretty sure that the oil comes out only if the engine is on, not sure i will check tho.

Scottoilers use an engine vacuum to open a plunger and allow the oil to drip out. They should only allow oil out when the engine is running.
My scottoiler used to drip all the time, so i rang up scottoiler and they told me to send it in. They replaced most of the parts and sent it back to me....all for free!!
Who says the Jocks are a bunch of moaning, scrounging tightarses who wear skirts? (They all are, except those nice people at scottoiler!)

Works wonders, just do as it says for installation and you must follow the 2 drops per minute rule, if not then its a nightmare to keep the back wheel clean, some say mount the feed on the front sprocket and thats a bad move as the oil is flung before it can get into the rollers and pins on the chain, dual feed is good on big bikes but not anything smaller than say a 550 (chain is narrower)
Cheers

I can see why people like / choose to have one fitted etc but personally id rather check and lube the chain myself, and i have heard of them leaking over the rear tyre which i know may not be a common occurance but has put me off a bit

Personally don't like them, the main claim is that using the system extends the life of the ch/sp kit. Scotoilers are for lazy bastards who can't be arsed to lube the chain themselves. (or people who own bikes without a center-stand, lets be fair)

They also make a flucking mess of your backwheel.

The problem of too much oil flinging is caused by not setting the flow correctly.

On hot/warm/humid days oil flows quicker, so turn it down accordingly. Vice versa for colder days.

I used to keep pretty good care of my chains, Used to get about 8,000miles through the winter before it had stretched to much, I was spending an arm and a leg on chain wax/loob. This was on a 60BHP NC30

Roll in a oilling system on a GSXR750, Done 8,000miles and adjusted the chain about 2 times in total. It maybe lazy but if it gets 2 to 3 times the life out of a chain, well I'll be lazy and a bottle has lasted me almost a year which cost £5, instead of £5 a can every month.

Do the math, £5x12 for say 8,000miles or £5 every 5,000miles for 20,000miles.

Also I found chain loob/wax was just as messy, even more so actually as I found it got quite hard when dried whereas scott oil says quite moist and just wipes off with a rag.

chain oil is not just for the chain ,the chain still rubs on the sprockets and if you dont oil the chain even with o rings and teflon bits its still gonna wear out your sprockets,i dont have an oiler but every time i come back from a ride even if its to the local shop , i put the bike on the centre stand and run the wheel in gear while everything is still hot and spray lube on it then put the bike away, nobody believes me when i tell them how long i get out of a set of chain and sprockets Mr. Green

They don't if they are set up correctly Rolling Eyes . Its not difficult, there is only one dial to turn. To the right, more oil... the left yes, you've guessed it - less oil Exclamation If you have seen bikes with a scottoiler fitted and the back wheel is covered in oil then there is only one thing you need to do.....question the riders intelligence Laughing
