Well it was my birthday last week and my lovely girlfriend hired us a Harley for 3 days to go down the Norfolk coast on!!
Originally she'd hired the 883 sportster.

But that was having the starter motor repaired so they upgraded us to the 1200 Sportster. Obviously I was well chuffed getting the extra cc's at the same cost but there was still a catch. When she had booked it she was told there were going to be saddle bags on the bike so we'd bought a bit more luggage with or (Or rather she had, my stuff still fitted into half a ruck sack). We downsized the luggage as best as possible and got on the bike. I revved it up, loving the sound of the V-twin and then eased the clutch out to get us on the way. No more than 2 metres and 5 - 10 mph and I heard a scream, she'd slid straight off the back . Obviously this wasn't going to do so I parked it up and told them it's no good.
The bloke then offered me the only other bike he'd got left.

The Ultra glide classic!!! What a fucking beast!! I asked how easy it was to ride before accepting and the guys answer was "Don't know mate, this is the only one I havn't tried coz it's too big!!" Well being the double ard, cocky bastard I am. I had to take it after that!!
It was fucking awesome, it had more luggage space than a modified Nova, CD player and radio, cruise control and huge padded leather arm chairs. The missus loved the pillion, I could have parked it up in my living and watched TV from it it was that comfortable. OK, it vibrated like a jack hammer but then you expect that from a Harley. It wasn't as quick as the R1 but it could have pulled a tractor. The CD player was cool I was straight into Woolworths to buy me the 'Born to be wild' compliation for £3.99 and we were set!!
We headed out to Haunstanton first and took the A149 down the coast to Sheringham, Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Lowesoft. A fantastic route!! Specially the bit between Haunstanton and Sheringham. Very twisty route with lots to see. From there we headed back to Kings Lynn and then to Wisbech before dropping it back. Probably the best present i've ever had and ever will have
I realise it's not everyones cup of tea and i've only ever ridden a Harley once before myself but if your gonna do some serious miles then I can't reccommend one of these enough!!! Filtering is tricky although still possible Turns in the road are heart stopping and even stopping at lights can be testing on the leg muscles as it weighs 372kg without luggage. But once your moving it's pure comfort!!
So if you passed a Harley rider last week in that area that actually nodded or even at times waved. It wasn't an illusion, it was me!!!

Cool nice write up but I would have left the missus behind and picked her up where she landed on the way back to drop it off.
You need one of these shirts. No offence to the missus of course |

Great story. Not a fan of Harleys myself, but it looks like a great bike. You struck lucky there! ____________________ Keep it shiny! |
