I had to push start my BMW R100RT once. Not an act I'd ever like to repeat.

When you've done a few cars a bike is a welcome relief. I had to bump start a 1300kg POS calibra everyday for a week.

You don't have to try and keep the car upright at the same time, though.

I bumped a 1338cc Harley Davidson just to see if I could (there was nothing out of the ordinary wrong with it). I'm not sure if I was supposed to because it was fuel injected, but what the hell, it wasn't mine. Third gear did the trick. That was the most difficult, more due to the chopper bars making it difficult to manage running alongside then getting from a sidesaddle stance to astride the bike with feet forwards once it fired up.

Easiest had to be my honda PC50. It once fired up when I took the piston up over compression using a ring spanner on the end of the crank when checking the tappets

I had to bump start my Hayabusa once, not very easy, although had to bump start my car several times (knackered battery - too skint to replace it at the time).

When I was 15 went on a school trip to Spain, and the coach we were on battery went flat, had to bump start that with about 20 of us.

with my Rieju RS2 Matrix 50cc jobbie it was fucked after just 3 months (very crap bike, worst 3k i ever spent as i only got 750 back for it 3 months later!!!!) had to bump start it 4 times a day for a month. ionce tried with the CBR125 to see if i could but it just locked the wheel, i assume there si a different techneque to bumping a 4T? or is it cos the CBR has no weght on the back end Razz

Bump started my old cx (out of pure curiosity like stinkwheel) easy enough to do, wouldn't like to make a habit of it though any sort of hill would be right out too..

Did my cg one or two times, it would go after being bump started but not kick started... turned out the petrol was so low and bumping it sloshed enough arorund to go 1/2 a mile then stop again Rolling Eyes

Guys, if you are locking the back wheel, you are trying in too low a gear. I would bump start most bikes in second gear. You should be able to paddle most 125s along in second gear without even the need for all this running and popping of clutches. Just select second, ignition on then sit on the bike and paddle it forwards.

You can start my H100 in second by putting it on the mainstand and flicking the back wheel round by hand.

For those if you wanting to be really flash, Grand Prix always used to start with the rider standing next to the bike with the engine off. The really fast boys used to mount the bike sidesaddle so they could hook second before they swung their leg over the saddle.

Endurance races take it one further and begin with a 100 yard dash.

If you can do it on a high-geared, 500cc race bike with your legs held together by screws and plates....

Had to bump off my dads FZR1000 a few times after the immobilizer drained the battery, that was damn hard work, only managed it once by myself. Also had to bump the Blade900 a good couple of times as well due to having a buggered battery. Couldnt do that one on my own, required someone pushing the bike. Laughing

there isn't to much to damage really

Bumped my rs everyday for months while the reg/rec and battery was f*cked.
Can't see me rolling it in 2nd without using the clutch to bump it, or spinning the back wheel, that H100 must have had practically no compression.

Bumped a 05zx6r at work on a shiney dusty floor, wasn't too hard as there was 3 of us. Razz

I was told not to bump start my Daytona 600 as it's fuel injected. Bump started every day last week because of the piss weak battery.
