Looks like Rossi is going to F1 for 2007 by all the talk. He is testing in the winter and Ross Brawn wants him. Could be interesting to see what Rossi Says.

Just watching the F1 on ITV now. He's testing for Ferrari all through the 2006 season. By 2007 Schumacher will probably have retired and the driver line up will likely be Kimi Raikkonen and Rossi.

For a guy that hasn't any competitive car experience Ferrari seem to have a huge amount of faith in his skills, so he must be doing something right. Or might it just be they're looking for a successful Italian driver for their Italian car?

Although he has no race experience in an F1 car, he was a Kart champion and at his last test he was 1 second a lap slower than Shumy.

He knows about lines, grip, and setup. all that matters is the dedication to its application. and rossi is up there with schuey when it comes to dedication. Look at his biking career; one year to learn, champion the next.
I'm not saying that he will win anything in F1, but he will still be a damn good driver after a little practise. If the ferrari is competetive he could win.

Well remember when he switched bike teams, he still won the next season. I reckon he will be 'the new Schumacher', he's a bloody legend.

I seem to remember him rolling a WRC car early on in Rally GB and not finishing the event.

Well i'm fookin gutted......... Sad

It would be good for F1 to stir things up a touch AND to see how he adapts. The other bonus is that GP races will have less people attending so there will be more room to watch the race, 110,000 at Catalunya this year and 75% were wearing yellow 46 shirts.

Well, in MCN Rossi says the Ferrai testing was "just for fun" Confused

We'll never really know until it happens, or doesn't happen Praying

He's to test every 4 weeks for Ferrari for the 2006 season. Listening to what Ross Brawn (technical director) and Luca di Montezemolo (president of Ferrari) are saying, basically if he gives the thumbs up then he'll be racing with them for 2007.

Wonder who MCN will tip as Rossi's replacement? David Beckham, Tony Blair,......Elvis????

Yeah, because I can really see Yamaha letting a guy that costs how many millions??? per season risk his life in a 200mph F1 car whilst they are still forking out his wages.

Like I've said already, I believe it when I see it.

The 200 mph F1 car is infinitely safer than the 200 mph GP bike, and on some of the more modern circuits, motorsport in general isn't especially dangerous. Of course, Monsa, Monaco, Silverstone and some of the others still have teeth, but nothing in comparison with the days of old where years without fatalities were rare. Have a clumsy foot and you'll light the tyres up and spin out. Have a clumsy right hand and you're catapulted into the air to land on the tarmac at speed from a height.

Also think of the tifosi who might move into buying Yamahas rather than Ducatis with someone like Rossi to influence them..

Something from the BBC website about Rossi's last test:
Although Ferrari said Rossi's session was a private test, Yamaha team boss Davide Brivio was aware of the event - unlike last year.

"Valentino let us know about it," said Brivio. "His contract allows him to do it. In his free time, Valentino can do what he wants."

if rossi turned round and said he was going to climb mount everest in his spare time yamaha couldnt do much about it.
infact if he told them to all jump through hoops im sure theyd do that too.
basically he's calling the shots.
something a team has to put up with if they want that kinda talent.
theyll never have total control over someone like rossi.
other thing is that as sad as it is, money talks, and f1 has heaps more of it to throw at there drivers.
saying that it will be very damaging to motogp when he goes cause there wont be the same interest from sponsors, tv etc.

There's nothing like a great big rumour to bring free publicity. This is that great big rumour. Smile I could see it, but I don't think it'll happen myself.

I don’t care when poor riders/drivers swap motorsport, good riddance.

Shame he might be moving from such a passionate sport.

What I don't understand is why does Rossi want to race for Ferrari?? His goal in live it seems is to prove to the world its the rider not the machine who wins races. Yet Ferrari are one if not the biggest team, have the most money, the best support staff, the most extravagant R&D labs and all the in-car fly-by-wire systems that wouldn't look out of place in a star wars set?? If a comparison could be made they are as Honda is (was) in Motogp.........

I have to agree that it does just look like the ideal publicity stunt.
It would be a dream for the PR people at Ferrari to have someone like Rossi to work with and I think that's why it was dreamt up.
The publicity is mutually beneficial to all parties hence the lack of conflict.
Personally I think there's more chance of seeing Michael Shumacher with the same haircut as Rossi next season.
