Direct access test

Hi people could anyone tell me a bit about the direct access as i have no clue what it involves, how much it costs.
Can i do it on my bike it is a nsr 125 or is it a good idea to use their bikes?
Really want to do my test will this test have restrictions on bikes i can ride i think i might buy a cbr400 is this a good choice for a first bigger sports bike or may be a gsxr600.

Any info is much appreciated.

Firstly you need to be 21 years old

Secondly your going to need to do the test on a bigger bike. I think it has to be a minimum power output of 46.6bhp. Usually its on a commuter 500 (Kawasaki ER-5, Suzuki GS500, Honda CB500). Upon passing this you'll be able to ride any sized bike.

Baring in mind though you cannot practice on the road unless your being accompined by an approved DAS instructor.

Well the age thing is ok as i am 24 do you know how much it costs i have been told it is possibly in the region of £400.
Do you think buying a gsxr 600 would be stupid?

I did 4 days DAS and hopped straight onto a CBR600RR and I'm still alive. Modern 600 sports bikes are very tame, and are very easy to ride. They just are very quick. Just take it easy.

I also passed my DAS course with Norton Motorcycle Training in May. I would strongly recomend them if you're in the Worthing area.
I bought a ZXR400 and it's been spot-on. I was also looking at GSXR600s and I would probably have been fine but doubt I would have learnt how to handle the bike as quickly.
The sensible advice is always to buy an old commuter bike to learn the ropes on, but you're more likely to save the money for a pension scheme!
