Hey all, just thought I'd let you know how my R6 is going after having the NSR. Even though its restricted, it feels really fast on acceleration. I am however having some trouble with slow speed riding. Like on mini roundabouts etc. It feels quite snatchy, and I'm still getting used to the clutch.

The exhaust sounds really nice, its a quill one, but its not road legal as far as I'm aware. I've got a standard one on the way though.

As I've got my new bike, I'm considering meeting up with some of you lot at boxhill or bury hill next sunday. We shall see...

I will post some pictures of the bike when my girlfriend remembers to bring her digital camera round.

Speak to you all soon!

the clutch takes some getting used to... when i went from my CB400 to my FZR600, i couldn't slip the clutch at all!

give it a few weeks for your wrist and muscles to adapt, and you will be well on your way

Ooh, so you bought it in the end. Cool

You'll get used to the clutch in time. What sort of top speeds is it indicating in 33bhp state?

Gorgeous bikes though, get some pictures asap. Thumbs Up

I haven't top speeded her as of yet, but i was cruising at 85 the other day at around 6k revs in top. Still had plenty to give until the restrictors really kicked in (around 9k revs). It is producing slightly more than 33bhp because of the quill race can that is fitted, but I have a standard one on the way... sadly!

My dad reccons that it would do 100- 110 because he rode it for the previous owner a few times.

Will post pics when I have a digital camera to use.

I doubt the can would liberate any more hp - it'll chuck out more than it can take in (and maybe run lean). Though it should top a ton easily (even my old 30 odd bhp 400/4 did 105).

See you about sometime maybe; I'm from that neck of the woods.

So are you happy with the purchase? Glad you bought it? Little regrets maybe? The reason I ask is it's one of the bikes I'm considering once I've past my test.

Oh right, I didn't know about the can. At least I'm slightly more legal than I thought I was!

I'm sure I'll see some of you around soon!

I may be in for a long haul trip (to me) down to swanage in dorset next weekend, so that could be interesting!

I'm well happy with the bike, it was well worth the 2800 quid I paid for her, especially with only 8000 miles!

I know she's restricted, but the power still scares me at the moment, but I've only been riding her for a few days, I'm slowly getting more used to it!

She already has an undertray on, its one of those shotgun style ones with the twin bulbs and the flush mounted indicators, but I'm planning to change it for an LED rear one, with an rsend on it and some of those diamond shaped indicators instead. I'm going to change the front indicators from dinki winkas to others. Am also going to change the screen to an iridium blue double bubble because of my height. And a new hugger, as the current one is standard.

This is not true at all. I have done the 70 mod to both my R6's as have many of the other guys I ride with who have R6's.
By doing either the fork mod or shimming the rear shock (2003+ only) it will turn in just as quick and be stable at the same time. After this mod i have never felt the need for a steering damper but others have.
There is a problem with some 70 tyres fouling the front mudguard but this is an easy fix.
Added to this there is a better tyre choice.
Not wishing to advertise another forum but if you need info on the 70 mod then r6message.net is the place to go.

The 70 mod really does make the bike ride better and doesnt give that feeling that the front is about to go everytime you push it hard.

Loads of riders swear by this mod and even Yamaha changed to 70 on their 2005 model.

Not true....boolox is there any less tyre choice witha 60 section front .....never had any problems getting 120/60's

and since when does the front end feel like its gonna wash out when your pushing it on 60's???

ask anyone that i ride with i push it hard and the only time it gets funny at the front is on COLD tyres ....

Well excuse me. I didnt realise you were the R6 god.

Myself and thousands who have changed to a 70 must be wrong then.

Or maybe it just could be that your not pushing it as hard as you think you are.

I never really had problems getting 60 tyres either. What i did find is that any of the good offers or discounts were for the 70's.

as must the thousands who dont change the tyre ....??Confused

if you never had problems with getting 60's then why say there is less choice or whatever ?? if you meant you get better deals on 70's then say that ....

i never said i was an R6 god but you only have to ask people that i ride with that i push it hard , hard enough to know whether a 60 or 70 is better

OK. badly worded.

There seems to be better Offers / discounts on 70's my tyre of choice.

So lets just agree that the size is a matter of choice. you have tried both and prefered the 60,
I have tried both and prefered the 70. and that includes going to a 70 on the ZX6.

Lets not push our views on other riders, best to say there are two options and one or the other will suite your type of riding better.

As for riding hard. We all do it, why else have an R6.

Changing to a 70 profile tyre should increase turn in speed and make the bike less stable.

However, it will also raise the ride height, as the tyre is higher. This will reduce the turn in speed and make the bike more stable.

Generally, I believe the consensus is that even if you leave the rideheight alone, you should get quicker turn in.

However, different manufacturers use different shapes - ranging from an almost square shape, to a more circular profile and some can get almost like a triangle - a narrow contact patch when upright but relatively more contact when leant over.
The shape that your 'model' of tyre uses will also change the way the bike handles.

Personally, I never notice the difference between such things that much - I just ride the bike Smile.
