hello for a start i am new to this site.

i used to have a honda x8rx moped (was a good moped to)

but now i have moved on to a motirbike. yamaha tzr 125r

i am still learning to drive it, think i have got the hang of it. bit aukward to learn on though. but i hope to do my bike test soon once i get the hang of it better. bit worried as hill starts are not that great, causeing embarassments. i am a female aswell so i can imagine people laughing at me driving lol.

any tips on how to learn?

not got it on the road yet as it has to get minor work done for mot soon. dont fancy getting caught with no tax.

hi, id recommend practising on a car park
being a female in a generally male world of bikes will make you popular.

generally girls ride slower, so blokes dont laugh at girls who go slowly
(cue fast girls flaming me)
people tend to laugh more if you fall off. So going slowly is definitely a good plan as if you fall off, ppl laughing will be the least of your worries

hello, its a good idea to practise clutch control, like when your waiting at lights, keep your foot on the back break and let the clutch out until you find the biteing point, if you practise that loads you will find its the same on a hill, you just need more pressure on the back break, release the clutch slowly, listen hard for the bite, then increase the revs, let the clutch out and take your foot off the break and don't forget the lifesaver!!

It will soon come naturally. Good luck.

yeah got my bitting point sometimes but some hills are aweful where i live to get over the top of lol. my balance is great, not afraid of bike or anything. maybe just afraid of driving slowly. but i know when i get used to it i will be fine. wish it was start if summer again instead of learning in bad weather as usual. last year had that moped and all it done was rained lol. but i learnt the hard way and was thankful of it.

people tend not to believe me when they see me and they find out i have a bike. i think i have been tared with the dumb blonde thing. but i soon shut them up Smile Mr. Green

thanks guys. Smile

You really need to slip the clutch and not be afraid to give it a handful of revs when doing hillstarts on a 2-stroke 125. I live in the south wales valleys, so believe me, i know!

All bikes are more stable the faster you go, so if you get over the low speed problems, you should be sorted.

Zen Dog

P.S. Female bikers are a minority in a minority, so no bikers are likely to take the piss. We're generally just glad theres another female biker!

Do lessons with an instructor then what he tells you to do practice it, and then practice some more.

Soon you'll be moving along smoothly doing your rear checks when required and hopefully be ready for your test.

As for ppl laughing at you never worry as everyone make mistakes and even riders who have 10 years under their belt make mistakes, after all we're only human Wink

just relax,, have your right foot on the brake, ans left hand holding the clutch in,, let the revs build and ease the clutch out youll feel the bikes rear drop a bit,, then just release the brake slowly..
just remember slow maneuvers = clutch controlthrottlel control and rear brake,, never try a u turn without using your clutch

Why don't you go to the Quay Vipers MCC rally the weekend after next?

They are a really friendly bunch, lots of other girl riders there for you to get to know, lots of experienced riders to give you tips, and you get a damned good party too!

https://www.quayvipersmcc.com/snakebiterally.html

If I can sort out the ferry & riding/driving, you might even get to meet me too, although it's looking less & less likely the nearer we get to it. Sad
